Job summary

Virginia Military Institute seeks an Assistant Director of Athletic Communications to lead communications for men's soccer, swimming & diving, wrestling, and baseball, with broader duties across other sports as needed.

You will promote VMI Athletics through accurate, timely content across digital, social media, broadcast, and traditional media, coordinating with coaches, cadet-athletes, staff, conference offices, and media to enhance visibility and the program's brand.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, sports media, PR, or related field.
• Experience in collegiate athletics communications or sports information preferred.
• Experience with statistical software, website CMS, Adobe Creative Cloud, photography, social media, and live-event communications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary communications contact for men's soccer, swimming & diving, wrestling, and baseball.
• Manage publicity and media relations for assigned sports, including press releases, game previews, recaps, feature stories, notes, and statistical information.
• Maintain rosters, schedules, results, records, biographies, and historical information on the VMI Athletics website.
• Coordinate game-day sports information operations, including statistics, media credentials, press areas, interview requests, and postgame materials.
• Create engaging digital content, including graphics, photography, short-form video, and social media posts.
