ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Be an appropriate role model for student-athletes, parents, families, SCS staff, opponents, and the community
Fosters initiative, self-discipline, teamwork, loyalty, courage, leadership, and the commitment to excellence to Shelbyville Middle School athletes
Works cooperatively and develops rapport with administration, teachers, coaching staff, players, and community
Complies with all aspects of the coaching handbook
Organizes, directs, and supervises assistant coaches
Exhibits enthusiasm and sincere interest in coaching and working with athletes
Uses sound proven methods of coaching and displays knowledge and innovation in sport
Clearly communicates with the individual/team about goals, performance, and progress
Develops and maintains a competitive environment
Instructs individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved
Organizes, plans, and schedules a regular program of practice
Maintains an accurate roster
Assists the Athletic Director in planning contests, special events, etc.
Communicates and works with medical personnel and parents involving athletes' injuries
Monitors the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the assigned sport is conducted at all times that athletes are present
Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season
Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual athletes
Maintains competency in rules, rule interpretations, meets procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sport
Adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow-up
Recommends the purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms and submits on time
Accounts for all equipment or delegates the responsibility
Develops a consistent and positive public communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about the athletic program
Attends clinics when financially possible
Complies with requirements outlined on the employee sign-off sheet
Monitors required training completion of athletic department employees
Completes required training promptly
Maintains satisfactory attendance
