Job summary

Tenneco, a leading manufacturer and distributor in the transportation industry, seeks an experienced accounting professional to join the finance team in Michigan. The role covers month-end close, reconciliations, profitability analysis, and capital budgeting support.

We expect 5+ years in financial/cost accounting within manufacturing, with GAAP/SOX knowledge and strong Excel skills. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential for driving cost control and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial or cost accounting in manufacturing.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and macros; SAP and 10Stream experience helpful.
• High accuracy and strong organizational skills.
• Knowledge of GAAP and Sarbanes–Oxley (SOX).
• Leadership and teamwork experience required.

Responsibilities

• Support Strategic Planning, annual and monthly financial cycles, and variance analyses.
• Handle month-end close, journal entries, and reconciliations for multiple ledgers.
• Maintain reporting tools for KPIs and profitability improvements.
• Assist with capital appropriation requests and ROI/EVA analyses.
• Oversee general accounting activities including billing, payroll, assets, and standard costing.
• Support internal and external audits and SOX compliance.
• Assist with safeguarding assets and setting standard costs.
• Collaborate with operations to achieve production and productivity goals.
• Perform basic professional accounting tasks and prepare financial reports.

• Support the development of the Strategic Planning Process, Annual Operation Plan, Monthly Forecast, Weekly Flash and Monthly Profitability Planning and Reporting and Analysis of Actuals
• Month-end close (journal entries, account reconciliations, etc.) and financial review analysis for multiple ledgers
• Maintain reporting tools tracking key performance indicators and profitability improvement plans
• Assist with developing Capital Appropriation Requests and business cases for analysis of Return on Investment and Economic Value Add.
• Assist with managing accounting activities including billing, accounts payable (handled through shared services), payroll, capital assets, general ledger and standard costing systems and ensure that all activities are in compliance with SOX and company established policies and procedures.
• Assist with management of internal and external audit requests.
• Assist with safeguarding of all company assets including inventory and fixed assets.
• Assist with setting of standard costs including development of overhead rates.
• Support corporate requests to ensure company’s ability to comply with GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley.
• Support operations/manufacturing activities to achieve production output, productivity and employee satisfaction goals.
• Position is responsible for performing basic professional accounting activities including posting, summarizing, reconciling, auditing, ledger maintenance, statement and/or report preparation.
• Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.
• Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
• Responsible for the account receivable processing in coordination with Tenneco CFS Team at corporate headquarters.
• Responsible for monthly general ledger account reconciliations and intercompany reconciliations with other Federal-Mogul plants.
• Completes special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial accounting or cost accounting in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of both areas is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, macros, and mainframe-based accounting systems are required. SAP and 10Stream experience is helpful.
• Highest standards of accuracy and organization skills.
• Knowledge of manufacturing/packaging/distribution processes.
• Detailed knowledge of financial and cost accounting principles with ability to interpret and utilize General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Working knowledge of Sarbanes – Oxley.
• Leadership and teamwork experience a must.
• Developed interpersonal skills with both written and oral communication necessary in this role in order to lead teams to problem-solving challenges within the department and in the automotive manufacturing setting.
