Job Description

The Assurance Senior Manager, Non‑Profit will be responsible for developing suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures. The role will also advise clients on economic and regulatory risks in a specific industry field of expertise by identifying financial and non‑financial performance measures, formulating, and communicating the audit plan, answering complex questions involving GAAP and GAAS and composing technical consultation memos on engagements related to GAAP / GAAS issues. The individual will be charged with marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise while maintaining key client relationships and acting as the primary contact for clients regarding complex questions and information. Additionally, the role will be a critical part of the office/region’s Assurance leadership team and will directly supervise staff on in‑process engagements, problem resolution, and delegation stages of audits.

Responsibilities
  • Control Environment & Risk Assessment
    • Apply advanced knowledge to establish or enhance effectiveness of policies and mitigate risks.
    • Validate and assess effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting and compliance according to government auditing standards.
    • Identify and communicate findings and recommendations to management and audit committee.
    • Delegate audit functions and supervise audit team, reviewing workpapers and providing on‑the‑job training.
  • GAAP & GAAS
    • Apply advanced GAAP knowledge, industry‑specific issues, and Government Auditing Standards to client transactions.
    • Consult clients on new or recently issued accounting pronouncements and alternative applications.
    • Draft complex financial statements and footnote disclosures and document resolutions of complex accounting issues.
    • Use GAAS and GAGAS in performing and supervising work, provide guidance, and communicate required reports to audit committees.
  • Methodology & Research
    • Apply BDO standards, policies, and technology to deliver quality services.
    • Conduct detailed reviews, prepare required communications, and recommend outcomes for critical issues.
    • Initiate client acceptance/retention procedures and plan audit processes to meet quality, efficiency, and completeness.
    • Seek authoritative information and draw conclusions, preparing memos and consulting with senior reviewers.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Set tone for teamwork and support others in delivering commitments.
    • Supervise and review work of assurance managers, associates, and senior associates.
    • Act as career advisor, schedule and manage workload, and provide performance feedback.
  • Other Duties
    1. Support business development and marketing efforts for the non‑profit group.
    2. Promote BDO client service specialties and manage engagement profitability.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting (required).
  • MBA or Masters in Accountancy (preferred).
  • Seven (7) years of work experience (required).
  • Significant supervisory experience (required).
  • CPA license (required).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (required).
  • Proficiency in assurance applications and research tools (preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Strong leadership, client relationship, and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to research and resolve complex accounting issues, and to manage entire engagements.
  • Strong people development and delegation skills.
Salary

NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $140,000 – $165,000.
