Job summary

Fairmont State University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of History with a Public History specialty for Fall 2027. The position entails teaching History courses and Museum Studies minor courses, split 50/50 between the two fields.

The successful candidate will contribute to the History major and Museum Studies minor through curriculum development, promotion, recruitment, and partnerships with local, regional, and national museums and historic sites; four classes per semester.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree in history or related field; ABD considered.
• Ability to teach both survey and upper-level 18th- and 19th-century American History.
• Experience in public history, museum studies, or related fields is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach History courses and Museum Studies minor courses, with a 50/50 split.
• Contribute to History major and Museum Studies minor through curriculum development, promotion, recruitment, and partnerships with local, regional, and national museums and historic sites.
• Engage in department, college and community service; use technology effectively in teaching and assessment.
