Job summary

BUILD Renewables, LLC is seeking an Assistant Procurement Manager to lead procurement activities for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects from estimating through closeout. You will serve as the primary procurement point of contact for project teams, drive supplier bidding, negotiations, and ensure on-time delivery in alignment with the project schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, Business or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of procurement/supply chain/construction/project management experience.
  • Experience leading project-level procurement activities and supplier negotiations.
  • Experience in utility-scale renewable energy EPC or major equipment procurement preferred.
  • Strong ability to lead teams and manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
  • Ability to read drawings, specs, schedules, BOMs, and contract requirements.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and procurement/data-management software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead procurement execution for assigned projects as primary contact with project management, preconstruction, engineering, estimating, and field teams.
  • Maintain project procurement plans, bid schedules, awards, and delivery dates in alignment with the project schedule.
  • Lead procurement meetings and communicate status, decisions, risks, and required actions to internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare and evaluate supplier bid packages to support complete and commercially comparable proposals.
  • Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers, including pricing, scope, schedule, and contract requirements.
  • Manage material purchase agreement exhibits, scope documents, bid clarifications, and EPC contract flow-down requirements.
  • Prepare procurement recommendations and obtain internal approvals before supplier selection and contract award.
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, BOMs, and other documents to identify scope gaps and procurement risks.
  • Monitor supplier engineering, submittals, manufacturing, testing, logistics, and delivery performance; escalate when commitments are at risk.
  • Manage procurement-related workflow from estimating through project execution and closeout.
  • Track procurement commitments against budgets and identify cost impacts and savings opportunities.
  • Provide day-to-day direction and mentorship to Procurement Specialists.
  • Ensure alignment with established procurement processes and supplier evaluation practices.
  • Support onsite project management during construction for shortages and delivery issues.

Position Overview

The Assistant Procurement Manager is responsible for leading project-level procurement activities for assigned utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects from estimating and preconstruction through contracting, delivery, and project closeout. This role serves as the primary procurement point of contact for assigned project teams, leads supplier bidding and negotiations, manages commercial and schedule risk, and provides day-to-day direction and mentorship to Procurement Specialists supporting the work. The position operates within the procurement strategy, processes, and supplier framework established by the Procurement Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Lead procurement execution for assigned projects, serving as the primary procurement contact for project management, preconstruction, engineering, estimating, and field teams.
  • Own and maintain project procurement plans, bid schedules, award milestones, submittal requirements, manufacturing timelines, and required-on-site delivery dates in alignment with the project schedule.
  • Lead procurement meetings for assigned projects and communicate status, decisions, risks, and required actions to internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the preparation, issuance, clarification, and evaluation of supplier bid packages to support complete and commercially comparable proposals.
  • Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers, including pricing, scope, schedule, and other project-specific commercial requirements.
  • Manage material purchase agreement exhibits, scope documents, bid clarifications, and applicable EPC contract flow-down requirements prior to execution.
  • Prepare procurement recommendations and obtain required internal approvals before supplier selection and contract award.
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, bills of material, and other project documents to identify scope gaps, quantity discrepancies, constructability concerns, and procurement risks.
  • Monitor supplier engineering, submittals, manufacturing, testing, logistics, and delivery performance; lead issue resolution and escalation when commitments are at risk.
  • Manage procurement-related workflow and communications from estimating and contracting through project execution, change management, and closeout.
  • Track project procurement commitments against approved budgets and support project teams in identifying cost impacts, savings opportunities, and forecast changes.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, workload coordination, technical guidance, and mentorship to Procurement Specialists assigned to supported projects.
  • Review work products prepared by Procurement Specialists for completeness, accuracy, commercial consistency, and alignment with established procurement processes.
  • Build effective working relationships with key suppliers while escalating broader supplier strategy, performance, and relationship matters to the Procurement Manager.
  • Contribute project experience and lessons learned to the continued improvement of procurement tools, templates, procedures, and supplier evaluation practices.
  • Support onsite project management teams as required during construction, including resolution of shortages, nonconforming materials, delivery issues, and supplier claims
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management , Engineering, Supply Chain, Business or a related field ; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, construction, project management, or a related field.
  • Experience leading project-level procurement activities, supplier negotiations, and material contract execution.
  • Prior experience in utility-scale renewable energy, EPC construction, or major equipment and material procurement is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead work through others, mentor team members, and coordinate competing priorities across multiple projects.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, project schedules, bills of material, and commercial contract requirements.
  • Working knowledge of procurement planning, competitive bidding, cost analysis, contract administration, supplier performance management, and logistics.
  • Strong commercial judgment and demonstrated ability to identify and communicate scope, cost, schedule, and contractual risk.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with project teams, senior leaders, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related project, procurement, and data-management software.
  • Ability to perform effectively under schedule constraints and manage multiple priorities with limited supervision.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.

Working Conditions

  • Approximately 25% travel to national project sites as needed.
  • Construction site environment - physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach and climb. Exposed to high noise levels.
  • General work environment - sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted primarily indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning.
  • Noise level is usually low to medium; it can be loud on the jobsite .
