Baptist Health Citizens Hospital in Talladega, Alabama is seeking an ICU Assistant Nurse Operations Manager. This full-time role oversees unit operations, nursing practice, staff development, and patient care delivery in a fast-paced hospital environment.

The ANOM will partner with the Unit/Department Nursing Operations Manager on budget, human resources, and quality outcomes while ensuring excellent patient experience and adherence to Baptist Health policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required if no MSN.
• Two (2) years of RN experience in an acute setting.
• Leadership experience in nursing management preferred.

Responsibilities

• Shared 24/7 accountability with Nursing Operations Manager.
• Recruitment, selection, and evaluation of unit staff.
• Coordinate with HR on discipline and career advancement.
• Oversee staffing schedules to ensure appropriate patient care.
• Lead patient flow improvements and nursing rounds.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and standard work.
• Ensure customer experience and service recovery.
• Maintain compliance with policies and regulatory standards.
• Mentor staff and represent nursing concerns.
• Perform direct patient care as needed.

A Brief OverviewThe Assistant Nurse Operations Manager (ANOM) is responsible for the management of their designated unit/department, including nursing practice and administrative oversight of the area. In conjunction with the Unit/Department Nursing Operations Manager, the ANOM provides guidance and direction on all aspects of unit operations including customer experience, budgetary performance, human resources activities, shared leadership, and quality outcomes.

Responsibilities

What you will do

• Shared 24/7 accountability with Nursing Operations Manager
• Participates in the recruitment and selection of new team members for the unit through interviews, peer selection, and evaluation of candidates.
• Coordinates with the Unit/Department Nursing Operations Manager and Human Resources as indicated on corrective action, progressive discipline, and career advancement.
• Investigates event reports and provides feedback to both Unit/Department Nursing Operations Manager and team members.
• Oversight of schedules for the unit to ensure the proper mix of staff are available each shift to provide appropriate patient care.
• Maintains oversight of patient flow and intervenes as indicated to achieve expected outcomes.
• Performs Nurse Leader rounds and reviews, to identify variance from nursing best practice and regulatory or hospital standards.
• Participates in process/quality improvement initiatives to improve outcomes and standard work.
• Ensures the customer experience is upheld by all team members on shift and provides service recovery to patients and their families as needed.
• Interfaces with patients and families to provide instruction, promote participation in patient care, and to coordinate nursing activities.
• Participates and/or leads staff meetings, GEMBA board, or huddles; demonstrates ownership of unit and outcomes.
• Performs direct patient care activities as required to meet operational needs.
• Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Respects the rights and privacy of others and holds staff member information in strict confidence.
• Ensures incident reports are completed appropriately and follows up with event reports as needed.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health policies and procedures.
• Leadership Expresses ideas clearly and effectively in verbal and written communication to team members and groups. Advocates on behalf of the nursing staff to represent the concerns of patients, families, and staff. Implements strategies that promote education, health, and safety. Fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion. Demonstrates collaborative and collegial relationship skills, engages staff in decision-making, and exhibits effective conflict resolution skills. Role models professional behaviors and serves as a mentor to coach team members and colleagues. Promote a safe working environment; support and/or coordinate any follow-up related to WPV occurrences.
• Human Resource Management Manages various human resources functions including recruitment/selection process, retention, supervision, coaching and productivity. Assists with the clinical evaluation of team members, completes written clinical performance evaluations, and conducts timely team member assessments. Ensures compliance with certifications, licenses, and required education for team members. Influences team members to enhance their abilities and promote professional development.
• Appropriate Clinical Practice Knowledge Performance supports the Professional Practice Model values – clinical excellence and caring practice. Superior clinical and critical thinking skills for assigned unit/department.
• Performance/Quality Improvement Monitors compliance and outcomes to identify issues and trends and leads the team on process/quality improvement initiatives. Ensures practice changes are evidence-based, promote high-quality nursing practice, and are consistent with research, organization, and national standards.
• Financial Management Manages time and resources efficiently to maximize unit/department productivity. Promotes cost effective management of equipment and supplies.
• Personal and Professional Accountability Participates in activities that promote personal and professional growth and development. Maintains active membership in a professional organization. Upholds ethical standards of practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) required if no Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN).
• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with Graduate degree in Business or health-related field preferred.
• Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute setting.
• Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Alabama or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
• Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)
