Job summary

Parker Hannifin is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support our Parker Aerospace operations in Kalamazoo, MI. The role focuses on determining manufacturing methods, improving workflows, and maintaining tooling accountability.

You will work with quality engineering and shop floor teams to implement efficient processes and documentation. Ideal candidates have trade school or AA in manufacturing and at least five years of related experience, with strong Lean and CAD proficiency and experience

Qualifications

  • Trade school or AA in Manufacturing or related field.
  • 5+ years in manufacturing or related engineering role or equivalent.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Observe operators to gather information on manufacturing processes.
  • Create/edit travelers and work instructions for fabrication, assembly, test, and rework.
  • Reduce setup times by identifying tool and fixture needs for manufacturing processes.
  • Assist in root-cause analysis and cost reduction for manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain status and progress reports on assigned programs.
  • Create and maintain 3D models and engineering prints.
  • Manage design data with PDM to ensure version control and accessibility.
  • Attend in-house training to maintain knowledge.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on projects.

Position Summary

Assists manufacturing engineers in determining the methods and sequence of manufacturing operations for products, machine parts, and assemblies to achieve efficient and reliable manufacturing processes and workflow. Responsible for working with Quality Engineering and the shop floor for completing rework instructions, and updates process to reflect current practices. Takes lead on tooling accountability by organizing, labeling, and ordering standard tooling.

Responsibilities
  • Gathers information about manufacturing processes by observing and learning from operators/production technicians.
  • Assists in the manufacturing process by creating and/or editing travelers and/or work instructions that include the areas of fabrication, assembly, test, and rework information.
  • Reduces set-up and run times by researching and assisting in determining the tool and fixture needs of manufacturing processes. May make recommendations for the design and planning of required tools.
  • Reduces processing costs by reviewing the causes for rejections and standard time deviations to assists in determining root cause, corrective action and the prevention of reoccurrence on manufacturing processes.
  • Maintains and provides status and priority information, progress reports, or other related communications on assigned programs and projects.
  • Analyzes proposed changes in methods and materials and contributes to continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing/production activities. Recommends cost reduction opportunities and may be assigned to special projects.
  • Create and maintain 3D models and detailed engineering prints using CAD software.
  • Manage design data and documentation effectively through Product Data Management (PDM) software to ensure version control and accessibility.
  • May define or input parameters for specialized automated production equipment programs.
  • Maintains manufacturing operations and technical knowledge by attending in-house training or educational workshops, and reviewing technical manuals or related publications.
  • Supports the team by accomplishing related results as needed. Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities.
Requirements
  • Trade school course completion, AA, or equivalent external training in Manufacturing which has provided both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through five or more of directly related experience; or, may have a Bachelor's degree in related technical discipline and no prior directly related experience.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • General knowledge of aerospace or similar industry products and manufacturing and assembly operations.
  • Ability to effectively apply continuous improvement methods to manufacturing functions (e.g. process mapping, design-to-production automation).
  • May require ability to use standard business software applications and/or specialized data analysis or database tools.
