Job summary

The Illinois Association of School Administrators seeks an Assistant Athletics Coach to support the head coach in managing a high school program. You will supervise practices and games, ensure safety, and coordinate scheduling, paperwork, and transportation with staff and parents.

Strong communication, decision making, and conflict resolution skills are essential, as is a commitment to eligibility, booster relationships, and community collaboration.

Qualifications

• Requires PEL, Substitute or ASEP certification.
• ASEP applicants must complete Coaching Principles/Orientation, IHSA State Test, Sport First Aid.
• Coaching experience is preferred at high school level or higher.
• Playing experience at high school level or higher is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the welfare and safety of the athletes in the program.
• Supervise athletes’ workouts, practices, and games.
• Confirm all participants have completed all appropriate procedures before participating in practices.
• General upkeep and protection of equipment for the program.
• Parent communication.
• Assist the head coach with scheduling and transportation, paperwork, timesheets, fundraising, and documentation.
• Ensure all participants are eligible and maintain relationships with booster clubs and community organizations.
• Communicate with stakeholders to grow and sustain the program.
• Meet and follow compliance obligations per IHSA and related handbooks.
• Maintain current knowledge of sport trends and complete CPR/AED certifications.
• Incorporate Six Pillars of Character Counts into the program philosophy.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administrators.

Job description

• Assist the head coach with:
  • Scheduling and transportation
  • Necessary paperwork, timesheets, fundraising, and all other documentation for the program
  • Ensuring all participants are eligible
  • Relationship with Booster Club, PTO, and/or Community Organization(s)
  • Communicating with all stakeholders to grow and sustain a successful program
• Meet and follow all compliance obligations set forth by the Conference Calendar, RBHS Coaches Handbook, and IHSA
• Stay up-to-date with the current knowledge and trends in the sport
• Receive CPR/AED certification and maintain accordingly
• Incorporate the Six Pillars of Character Counts: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship into the philosophy of your group
• Perform all other duties as assigned by Assistant Principal of Athletics/Principal/Head Coach
