Job summary

State of South Carolina, Department of Corrections, seeks a senior supervisor to plan and coordinate institutional operations, including security, administration and inmate programs. Under general supervision, you will oversee Directors at SCDC Headquarters and lead policy implementation.

This role requires a bachelor’s degree and supervisory experience in a correctional setting or relevant military experience; candidates with a criminal justice degree substitution may apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a correctional environment or relevant military experience.
• Degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for overall experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Assist in daily planning and coordination of institutional operations including security, administration and support.
• Supervise security, custody and control of inmates and counsel as necessary.
• Serve as duty warden and act in the warden's absence.
• Oversee implementation of laws, policies, rules and regulations and operating procedures including OSHA.
• Draft policies and procedures for a Level II institution.
• Prepare reports and staff papers with recommendations for policy changes.
• Supervise sanitation of the institution and facilities.
• Other duties as required.

• Writes policies and procedures for a Level II institution.
• Prepares (writes) various reports, special studies and staff papers, including recommendations relating to proposed changes in policies, operating procedures, rules, regulations and laws.
• Supervises maintaining the sanitation of the institution, buildings, property etc.
• Other duties as required.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor's degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

SCDC Minimum Requirements

• A high school diploma and ten (10) years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, which must include five (5) years of supervisory experience in a correctional environment.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for the overall experience on a year for year basis (associate = 2 years, bachelor's and above = 4 years).
• No substitutions for supervisory experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
