Job Description: Correctional Institution Supervisor

The successful candidate will assist in directing, coordinating, and reviewing all operational activities of the institution. Responsibilities include ensuring the custody, security, discipline, and sanitation of the facility, and performing the duties of the Warden in their absence. The role involves adherence to policies and procedures related to the operation of the institution, as well as preparing reports, special studies, and staff papers with recommendations for policy and procedural changes.

Supervision is provided directly for security, classification, visitation, maintenance, outside details, agriculture programs, and training.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Must successfully complete an eight-week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
• Minimum of a bachelor's degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Equivalent military or correctional experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
• Ten years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including five years of supervisory experience in a correctional setting.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for up to half of the required supervisory experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of employment.
