I. JOB OVERVIEW

The George Washington University Division of University Advancement seeks an Associate Vice President of Advancement Services and Strategic Information Resources.

University Advancement is responsible for leading the university’s engagement and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients, and friends. Our goal is to advance GW’s mission of excellence in education and research.

Reporting to the Vice President of University Advancement, the Associate Vice President will be an inspired leader with a demonstrated track record to lead and enhance GW’s Advancement Services and Strategic Information Resources.

The Associate VP of Advancement Services and Strategic Information Resources serves as a strategic leader within the Division of University Advancement, overseeing Advancement Services & Analytics (gift records & processing, bio records, and system & data analytics) and Strategic Advancement Solutions (campaign operations, prospect research, and relationship management). This position works closely with the Vice President, executive leadership team, and campus partners to build and maintain the technical, analytical, and operational infrastructure needed to support high-level fundraising, multi-year campaigns, and data-informed decision-making across the university.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Internal Leadership: Function as an internal leader within University Advancement, working closely with the executive leadership team to ensure the smooth operation, alignment, and administrative efficiency of the division.
  • Strategic Planning & Budgeting: Collaborate with the Vice President and executive team to establish long-range strategic directions for fundraising programs, develop operational budgets to support unit goals, and ensure performance metrics are tracked and monitored.
  • Executive Thought Partnership: Serve as a strategic thought partner across University Advancement and the university on campaign planning, advancement services, prospect development, and donor pipeline strategies.
  • University Alignment & Governance: Work closely with senior leadership—including the CFO on finance and accounting alignment, and academic leadership—to facilitate cross-departmental partnerships that ensure philanthropic revenue is properly recorded, expended and reported upon (in partnership with Donor Relations & Stewardship).
  • Institutional Priority Knowledge: Maintain a deep, comprehensive understanding of the university’s academic, research, and fundraising priorities to align advancement operations accordingly.
Advancement Systems, CRM & Data Analytics
  • CRM Migration & Architecture: Lead the conclusion of a multi-year CRM migration—encompassing staging, testing, capacity building, and system implementation within an active campaign environment.
  • Information Technology Collaboration: Serve as the primary liaison to campus IT teams (GWIT) to ensure seamless integration of advancement systems with enterprise administrative computing, web-based applications, and intranet services.
  • System Administration & Training: Oversee the delivery of training resources, applications, and user support to University Advancement professionals to maximize effective adoption and mastery of advancement software.
  • Vendor & Service Management: In collaboration with GWIT, manage relationships, contracts, budgeting, and project execution with third-party software providers, vendors, and consultants.
  • Advanced Analytics & Predictive Modeling: Build data-mining capacity and create advanced predictive models (using proprietary and commercial datasets) to inform prospect scoring, constituent demographics, psychographics, and engagement strategies.
  • Reporting & Executive Dashboards: Conceptualize and deliver a scalable suite of management tools and dashboards (tracking gift/pledge accounting, donor engagement, philanthropic capacity, and budget performance) for deans, executive officers, and University Advancement staff.
Gift Processing, Bio Records & Campaign Operations
  • Gift & Bio Records Administration: Oversee the timely, accurate processing and recording of philanthropic gifts, grants, and biographic data while continually refining policies, procedural workflows, and coding mechanisms to ensure compliance and data integrity.
  • Campaign Operations: Develop, implement, and manage the infrastructure required to execute multi-year, mega-campaigns and major fundraising initiatives. Partner with campaign leadership to set operational priorities and track progress.
  • Prospect Research & Relationship Management: Drive prospect identification and research workflows, accelerating the availability of donor assessments and pipeline analysis to guide major and principal gift solicitations.
  • Compliance & Confidentiality: Protect sensitive constituent information, maintaining strict adherence to all university, divisional, and public record guidelines regarding data privacy.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
