Qualifications

  • CPA certification required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum eight years of progressive accounting, budgeting, or financial management experience with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, audits, budgeting, forecasting.
  • Experience with enterprise financial systems, especially Ellucian, and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and staff development skills.
  • Ability to interpret policies and manage risk with sound judgment.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion; valid driver’s license for travel.
  • Background check required before hire.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Treasurer, theAssociate Vice President for Finance serves as the senioroperational leader for the Finance Division and is responsible forthe effective day-to-day management of the University’s accounting,financial reporting, budgeting, purchasing/procurement, auditcoordination, tax and regulatory compliance, and related financeoperations. The Associate Vice President translates institutionalfinancial strategy into disciplined processes, reliable forecasts,timely reporting, strong internal controls, and effective financialmanagement across the University. The position works closely withthe Vice President for Finance and Treasurer to implement theannual budget, long-range financial plan, scenario analyses, andthe financial components of strategic initiatives and partnerships.In a challenging higher education environment, the Associate VicePresident is expected to be a hands-on leader who strengthensaccountability, develops staff, improves processes and systems, andprovides responsive, decision-useful financial support whilemaintaining appropriate stewardship and control.

Required Qualifications:
  1. 1. Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting, Finance, BusinessAdministration, or a closely related field. CPA certificationrequired; Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, BusinessAdministration, or a related field preferred.
  2. 2. Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible accounting,budgeting, financial reporting, or financial management experiencerequired, including significant supervisory or managementresponsibility. Experience in higher education, a not-for-profitorganization, or public accounting serving complex not-for-profitor higher education clients strongly preferred.
  3. 3. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accountingprinciples, financial statement preparation, audit requirements,internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, tax andregulatory compliance, and financial reporting in a complexorganization.
  4. 4. Demonstrated ability to manage an annual budget process, developforecasts and financial models, analyze variances and trends, andtranslate financial information into practical recommendations foroperating leaders.
  5. 5. Demonstrated success improving financial processes, controls,reporting, and systems. Experience with enterprise financialsystems, preferably Ellucian, and advanced proficiency with Exceland financial reporting/analytics tools required.
  6. 6. Strong leadership, communication, and management skills,including the ability to develop staff, establish accountability,manage competing priorities, and work effectively with diverseacademic and administrative constituencies in aresource-constrained and changing environment.
  7. 7. Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply policies,procedures, laws, regulations, accounting standards, andinstitutional guidelines; ability to identify risk and exercisesound judgment in complex situations.
  8. 8. Ability to handle matters of a highly confidential and sensitivenature with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  9. 9. Valid driver’s license and accessibility to transportation fortravel between campuses.
