Job description

A well-established, AAHA-accredited small animal hospital on Eastern Long Island is seeking a full-time experienced Associate Veterinarian to join its team. The veterinarian will provide comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care for a diverse patient population that includes dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, guinea pigs, and other companion animals.

A minimum of two years of clinical veterinary experience is required for this position.

This opportunity offers an unusually flexible approach to scheduling, strong earning potential, a deeply tenured team, and the option to structure the position around either traditional year-round practice or a seasonal work model.

What to Expect
A genuinely established team.

Many members of the hospital team have been with the practice for 25+ years, with some exceeding 40 years of tenure. The environment emphasizes collaboration, respect, strong working relationships, and high-quality veterinary medicine.

A schedule that respects your time.

During the non-seasonal months, the last appointment is typically scheduled at 4:30 p.m. During the busier April-through-October season, the last appointment is typically at 5:20 p.m.

There are no on-call duties or holiday requirements. As a team committed to serving its patients and community, there may occasionally be a need to remain later for an unexpected or last-minute patient need.

Choose from three work models.
Traditional Year-Round Full-Time
  • 4–5 days per week
  • Approximately 30–40 hours per week year-round
Summer-Full, Winter-Free
  • Work full-time during May–October or April–October
  • Approximately 60–62 hours per week during the working season
  • Take November–April fully off
  • Maintain full-time employment status and benefits year-round
Seasonal Swap
  • Work May–October on Eastern Long Island
  • Work November–April at a warm-weather partner hospital
  • Maintain 30+ hours per week year-round with consistent pay and benefits

Schedule customization is available to accommodate commuter rail timing, and access to a hospital vehicle is available for transportation between the train and hospital.

Comprehensive medicine with advanced capabilities.

The full-service hospital provides preventive care, complex case management, surgery, dentistry, hospitalization, internal medicine, advanced diagnostics, intravenous fluid therapy, chemotherapy, and other comprehensive medical services.

The state-of-the-art facility provides advanced medical capabilities while maintaining a community-focused environment and has served the area for more 60 years.
