Associate Veterinarian at Altoona Veterinary Hospital (Altoona, IA)

Altoona Veterinary Hospital is an AAHA-accredited small animal practice committed to delivering top-tier compassionate care to pets in Altoona, IA, and surrounding areas. Our team includes veterinarians, technicians, and support staff offering a full spectrum of services, from wellness and immunizations to surgery, internal medicine, diagnostics, behavior, dental care, pain management, and end-of-life support. We have maintained AAHA accreditation for over 30 years.

Our hospital features in-house diagnostic and imaging capabilities including digital radiography, ultrasound, dental radiography, blood analyzers, echocardiography, and access to cardiology/radiology specialist consultations. We prioritize continuing education for our team on topics ranging from anesthetic protocols to behavior modification, pain management, and end-of-life care.

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, experienced Associate Veterinarian to join our team. You will deliver high-quality medical, surgical, and client-focused care consistent with AAHA standards. If you have an interest in exotics, we would be looking to expand our services with exotics.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive medical exams (wellness, sick visits, diagnostics, surgical consultations)
  • Perform surgeries and dental procedures
  • Develop and oversee treatment plans using lab work, imaging, and external consultations
  • Monitor patients’ progress and provide pain management, behavior, or end-of-life care as needed
  • Educate and counsel clients on topics like behavior, nutrition, parasite prevention, and follow-up care
  • Participate in continuing education to stay current on veterinary medicine best practices
  • Collaborate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff
