Job summary

Asplundh Engineering Services in the Southeast is seeking an experienced Transmission Line Engineer to support overhead line projects in the region. You will develop PLS-CADD models and perform supporting analyses while coordinating site activities and client interactions.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical, civil, or mechanical engineering, strong communication, and a commitment to safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, civil, or mechanical engineering.
  • Competency in the use of PLS software (PLS-CADD and related tools).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with a strong safety and customer-service mindset.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, have access to a car, and be comfortable entering transmission line ROWs and sites with PPE.
  • Must pass Criminal History Records Check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Develop PLS-CADD and PLS-Pole models for line designs and analyses.
  • Attend site visits for inventory, hard spots, and construction coordination.
  • Generate line studies, project estimates, materials and pole orders, drawings, and closeout documents.
  • Coordinate with construction, environmental, real estate, and permitting teams; foundation design is a bonus.
  • Meet with clients and partners to grow relationships and share project updates.
  • Review others’ work for quality and provide guidance as needed.
  • Assist in preparing proposals with cost estimates, approach descriptions, and scheduling.
  • Collaborate with other Power Delivery groups including civil/structural, distribution, and substation.

Description

Asplundh Engineering Services has an immediate opening for an experienced Transmission Line Engineer to join our team in the Southeast.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Develop PLS-CADD and PLS-Pole models for new and existing transmission line designs and analyses, PLS-Tower experience a plus.
  • Attend and complete site visits for line inventory, hard spot identification, and construction coordination.
  • Generate existing line studies, new project estimates, material and pole orders, construction bid specifications and drawings, and as-built closeout documents.
  • Coordinate with construction, environmental, real estate, and permitting representatives as well as geotechnical engineering services; foundation design experience would be a bonus.
  • Meet with our clients and partners on a frequent basis to share and expand our relationships.
  • Advise, review, and perform quality control on work performed by others.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals including cost estimates, description of project approach, and scheduling.
  • Learn from and contribute to other Power Delivery groups including civil/structural, distribution, and substation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Competency in the use of PLS software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as a proven commitment to safety and customer service
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, have access to a car, and be comfortable entering transmission line ROWs and line construction sites with proper training and PPE.
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check and drug screen.
Preferred Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Transmission Line Design
  • Experience in utility, preferably working for a Southeast utility company.
  • Proficiency with typical office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Windows, drafting software skills are an additional plus.
  • Professional Engineering license or E.I.T. strongly preferred.
  • Strong PLS-CADD experience required.
