Job summary

Scoular is seeking an Associate Superintendent in Downs, KS, to learn all facets of operating a grain facility under supervision of seasoned managers. You will help oversee daily operations, emphasize safety, and work to grow Scoular’s business across multiple Kansas sites.

You’ll shadow supervisors, assist with scheduling, recruit and train new staff, and travel as needed to broaden knowledge and strengthen our network within the region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication abilities.
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily facility operations including receiving, storing, and shipping grain/ingredients.
• Coordinate transportation and maintenance to ensure on-time deliveries.
• Learn inventory management, grading, bin practices and record-keeping; understand loadout equipment.
• Support safety initiatives and partner with EH&S to ensure compliance.
• Recruit, train, onboard and provide feedback to facility personnel; help create a positive, inclusive work environment.
• Travel to other Scoular facilities as needed to expand knowledge and network.

About The Role

As an Associate Superintendent you will work closely with experienced Superintendents and Managers to learn all aspects of operating a Scoular facility to include prioritizing the safety of employees, effectively leading a team, performing an operational role, and enhancing Scoular’s ability to operate and grow our business.

This role is located in Downs, KS but will support our Minneapolis, KS and Lincoln, KS facilities.

Operational Excellence

• Assist Superintendent/facility management with the oversight of daily operations of the facility, including receiving, storing, and shipping grain/ingredients.
• At the direction of management, coordinate transportation and maintenance needs for the facility to ensure on-time deliveries.
• Learn to manage inventory levels, grading standards, segregation factors, bin practices, mix-blend protocols and understand product quality while ensuring accurate record-keeping.
• Understand loadout and handling equipment (legs, belts, augers and conveyors).
• Demonstrate knowledge of preventative maintenance management to ensure equipment is functional, safe and in good repair.
• Understand dust control and mitigation.
• Provide a high level of customer service and communicate effectively with both customers and vendors.
• Develop an understanding of Scoular’s technology and systems.
• Develop an understanding of trade basics to include basic bid sheets, contracts, transportation and commodity movement while building Scoular customers and markets.
• Travel to other facilities as needed to enhance business knowledge and network exposure.

Safety

• Drive Employee Safety agenda and improvement.
• Participate in monthly safety meetings and trainings and perform location inspections and facility assessment audits alongside EHS partners
• Partner with management and EH&S Business Partners to ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry regulations.
• Partner with management to ensure compliance with all environmental requirements.

Team Leadership

• Shadow experienced supervisors to observe effective leadership techniques.
• Assist with scheduling production crew to meet work demands.
• Participate in the recruitment, training, and onboarding of new facility personnel.
• Gain experience in providing feedback and performance management to team members.
• Learn to create and maintain a positive and inclusive work environment, making Scoular a great place to work.
• Collaborate with community stakeholders to identify needs and priorities, to develop partnership and initiatives that support community development goals alongside Scoular values.

About You

• Currently pursing or recently obtained a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
• Skilled in problem solving techniques.
• Organized and detail oriented.
• Strong and effective communication skills
• Mechanical aptitude
• Ability to travel, as needed.

Preferred

• Knowledge of elevator operations
• Knowledge of blend and mix processes
