Job summary

CECO Environmental is seeking an Associate Structural Engineer to design safe, efficient main and secondary structures for industrial exhaust ducting used in power generation projects. You will run calculations, build 3D structural models, and work with fabrication teams.

Preference is for onsite work in Addison, TX, but remote options may be considered for the right candidate. This role requires collaboration with engineers and drafts to ensure code-compliant, safe installations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
  • Proficiency in STAAD.Pro, or RISA-3D, and AutoCAD.
  • Basic understanding of high-temperature materials and thermal expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Structural Analysis: perform member sizing per LRFD/ASD per AISC 360 with loads.
  • Design & modeling: develop 3D ducting structures and supports.
  • Code compliance: ensure designs meet AISC 360, ASCE 7, AWS D1.1 and codes.
  • Fabrication support: review drawings and resolve material issues.
  • Collaboration: coordinate with pipe stress/mechanical engineers and drafters.
  • Documentation: prepare structural calculation packages for client review.

The Associate Structural Engineer designs safe, efficient main and secondary structural systems for industrial exhaust ducting. This role supports power generation projects utilizing large-scale combustion turbines. You will perform calculations, create Structural Analysis 3D models, and collaborate with fabrication teams.

Preference will be given to candidates who can work onsite in Addison, TX; however, remote candidates may be considered for the right individual.

Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Structural Analysis: Perform member sizing conforming to LRFD and/or ASD methods per AISC 360 bending, deflection, and stability checks using static loading and environmental or operating loading such as: wind, seismic, and thermal calculations for exhaust ducting systems [1].
  • Design & Modeling: Develop 3D structural models of ducting, internal liners, and support steel.
  • Code Compliance: Ensure designs meet AISC 360, ASCE 7, AWS D1.1, and applicable international building codes.
  • Fabrication Support: Review fabrication drawings, answer shop inquiries, and resolve material issues.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with pipe stress/mechanical engineers, project engineers/managers, and drafting personnel.
  • Documentation: Prepare clear, organized structural calculation packages for client review.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
  • Proficiency in STAAD.Pro, or RISA-3D, and AutoCAD.
  • Basic understanding of high-temperature materials and thermal expansion.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Autodesk® Inventor or similar 3D mechanical design software.
  • Certification: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status preferred.
  • Basic understanding of thermal expansion concepts in large lined and insulated ducting or plate structures.
  • Experience FEM work analysis and mesh modeling.
  • Knowledge of common industrial welding practices and fabrication constraints.
  • Ability to interpret process drawings; P&IDs and coordinate ducting layouts with process requirements
Travel Requirements:
  • Travel is expected to be no more than 5% of working time.

Work Environment; Office Position: This position is based remotely. Minimal physical requirements, primarily computer use, and communication via virtual platforms, are necessary. Flexibility to adapt to occasional scheduled video meetings and collaborative tasks is essential.

Compliance with company attendance standards.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
