The Hartford is seeking an Associate Staff Attorney for a remote role primarily handling designated tasks related to pending claims and litigation in Northern Illinois. You will work with our Senior Attorney Staff in a collaborative environment, developing legal expertise while delivering excellent client service.

Responsibilities include analyzing issues, drafting pleadings and discovery, and managing litigation tasks.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of legal experience preferred, but will consider recent IL Bar exam graduates.
• JD from accredited law school and IL licensure to practice law.
• Functional understanding of claims and litigation is a plus.
• Commitment to providing a high level of customer service.
• Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude.
• Excellent legal research and writing skills.
• Strong MS Office proficiency (Word, Teams, PowerPoint & Outlook).
• Effective communicator with strong writing and research skills.
• Ability to think strategically and be challenged.

• Prepare pleadings, discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies with supervision.
• Handle litigation tasks and occasional case handling.
• Provide timely communication, information, legal advice and services to clients.
• Communicate with court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel following office procedures.
• Dispose of assigned tasks and cases promptly and efficiently.
• Prepare and present witnesses' evidence at trials, hearings, arbitrations and other resolutions.
• Attend CLE seminars as needed.

The Associate Staff Attorney is a remote position that will primarily handle designated tasks relative to pending claims and litigation in Northern Illinois. This position will be part of collaborative learning environment with onsite appearances in partnership with our Senior Attorney Staff. RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Analyze legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, with direction develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients
• Prepare pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies with supervision
• Responsible for handling litigation tasks and occasional case handling
• Provide effective and timely communication, information, legal advice and other services to clients on legal and factual issues
• Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures
• Accountable for the prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned tasks and as applicable, cases
• With direction prepare and present witnesses evidence at: trials, judicial/administrative hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions
• Attend CLE seminars as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 1 year of legal experience is preferred however, we will consider recent graduates that have recently passed the IL State Bar Exam
• Juris Doctorate (JD) from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of IL.
• Functional understanding of claims and litigation is a plus!

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
