Job summary

Olney Theatre Center is seeking an Associate Sound & Projection Supervisor to support audio and video operations for all productions and events. Qualifications

  • 3–4 years of experience as an A1.
  • Experience in live sound or theatrical production preferred.
  • Knowledge of digital audio consoles and projection systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot in fast-paced productions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary A1 Audio engineer for productions in the Robert’s Mainstage Theatre or Bernard Family Theatre.
  • Assist in providing high‑quality audio and video support for all productions and events.
  • Support setup, installation, maintenance, and operation of sound, projection, and AV equipment.
  • Collaborate with designers, Technical Director, Production Manager, and Stage Management to meet production needs.
  • Attend rehearsals, tech rehearsals, designer run‑throughs, and performances as assigned.
  • Assist in programming, cueing, and operating sound and projection systems during rehearsals and performances.
  • Prepare and test all sound and video equipment prior to rehearsals and performances.
  • Troubleshoot audio, projection, and video issues during rehearsals and performances.
  • Assist with striking productions and returning rental equipment after each production.
  • Help maintain inventory and upkeep of equipment, tools, and workspaces.
  • Support audio/visual needs for rehearsals, rentals, educational programming, and events.
  • Maintain safe working practices and compliance with safety standards.
  • Assist in training and supervising overhire crew, interns, and volunteers.
  • Support documentation of systems and maintenance records.

Salary: $51,500

Position Summary

The Associate Sound & Projection Supervisor supports the audio and video operations for all Production Department activities and performances. This role assists with the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of sound and projection systems while collaborating closely with designers, stage management, and production staff to ensure high-quality technical execution for all productions and Olney Theatre Events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary A1 Audio engineer for productions either in the Robert’s Mainstage Theatre or the Bernard Family Theatre (as needed).
  • Assist the Sound & Projection Supervisor in providing high-quality audio and video support for all productions and events.
  • Support the setup, installation, maintenance, and operation of sound, projection, and audiovisual equipment for productions, rehearsals, and special events.
  • Collaborate with the Sound and/or Projection Designer, Technical Director, Production Manager, and Stage Management team to ensure production needs are met.
  • Attend rehearsals, technical rehearsals, designer run‑throughs, and performances as assigned.
  • Assist in programming, cueing, and operating sound and projection systems during rehearsals and performances.
  • Prepare and test all sound and video equipment prior to rehearsals and performances to ensure proper functionality.
  • Troubleshoot technical and operational issues related to audio, projection, and video systems during rehearsals and performances.
  • Assist with striking productions and returning rental equipment following the completion of each production.
  • Help maintain the inventory, organization, and upkeep of sound, projection and video wall equipment, tools, and workspaces.
  • Support (when available) audio and visual needs for rehearsals, rentals, educational programming, special events, and activities in theatre and auxiliary spaces.
  • Maintain safe working practices and ensure compliance with all production and facility safety standards.
  • Assist in training, mentoring, and supervising overhire crew, interns, apprentices, and volunteers as assigned.
  • Support documentation of sound and projection systems, equipment usage, and maintenance records.
  • Perform other production-related duties as assigned by the Sound & Projection Supervisor, Production Manager, or Director of Production.
Qualifications
  • 3-4 years of experience working as an A1.
  • Experience in live sound, projection, audiovisual systems, or theatrical production preferred.
  • Knowledge of digital audio consoles, QLab, projection systems, microphones, speakers, and signal flow is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot audio and video equipment in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on production schedules.
  • Ability to lift and move production equipment and work safely at heights when necessary.
  • Commitment to professionalism, teamwork, and artistic excellence.
Salary and Start Date

The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026. The salary is $51,500 per annum. Olney Theatre Center offers a complete benefits package, including a modest 403(b) match.
