Job summary

Pearson is seeking Associate, Scoring Services to score California teacher licensure content areas remotely. Candidates must hold a California teaching credential or equivalent qualifications and have recent teaching or scoring experience.

Role involves evaluating responses, adhering to scoring standards, and participating in consensus discussions. Training is provided, with flexible scheduling and remote work options.

  • Recognize bias types and discuss strategies to reduce biases in scoring.
  • Meet quality and productivity requirements and pass a qualifying test before scoring.

Qualifications
  • hold a Teaching Credential in California corresponding to the content field, have at least three years of teaching experience, and be teaching or have taught within the last three years in California;
  • or be an instructor in a California institution of higher education who, in the last three years, has taught classes corresponding to the content field;
  • or have served as a Single Subject Assessments for Teaching scorer in the content field;
  • or have continuing experience as a scorer in the content field after having met one of the above qualifications;
  • or have an authorization to teach in California public schools in the corresponding content field and is a current California resident;
  • or hold a graduate degree in the content field and is a current California resident;
  • or hold a bachelor's degree and have several years' professional experience in the content field and is a current California resident;
  • or hold a bachelor's degree and/or master's degree and be a graduate student currently teaching courses in the content field in the state of California;
  • or have served as a CTC-approved member of the appropriate CSET test development and/or standard setting panel and is a current California resident;
  • or be a CTC-approved scorer.

Overall Responsibilities
  • Evaluate responses to test questions by California teacher candidates
  • Internalize scoring standards, participate in discussions, and engage with other scorers in consensus scoring activities
  • Recognize and discuss various types of bias (e.g., implicit bias, cultural bias, leniency bias, central tendency bias, halo effect) and effect strategies to reduce personal biases in scoring
  • Meet quality and productivity requirements established for the scoring program, including passing a qualifying test before scoring

Working Conditions

Scoring sessions take place during the week Monday through Friday. Scoring sessions will occur on an intermittent basis, every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the subject or every 2 weeks for Multiple Subjects Science. The scoring day runs from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m., including training. Scores can expect to work 8-24 hours a month for Multiple Subject Science. 4-7 hours a month for Physics, Chemistry, and Earth Science, 4-7 hours every two months for Music, Art, Dance, and Home Economics and 16-24 hours every 2 months for Physical Education

Training takes place before scoring begins. There may be a brief orientation meeting before the day of scoring occurs.
