Job summary

Just-Evotec in Redmond seeks an Associate Scientist to design purification processes for mammalian-derived biotherapeutics. You will join a fast-paced, cross-functional team applying high-throughput and continuous processing technologies to enable flexible, low-cost manufacturing.

You’ll develop binding/resin strategies, operate purification systems (AKTA Avant/Pure), record data, and contribute to tech development that expands platform capabilities while reducing cost.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related field.
• Knowledge of downstream purification development for mammalian biotherapeutics.
• Experience with chromatography theory and buffer preparation.
• Experience with data analysis and MS Office; JMP is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Dive into purification process development for biotherapeutics and seek improvements.
• Record laboratory work accurately in ELN and batch records.
• Prepare purification buffers, assemble chromatography hardware.
• Operate purification systems and data collection software.
• Analyze analytical results and present data in reports.

The Role

We’re looking for a passionate and curious Associate Scientist to join our team. If you’re excited by new challenges, solving complex problems, and learning every step of the way, you might just be the perfect fit. As a member of the downstream process design team, you will join a fast-paced, collaborative, and multidisciplinary team to develop purification processes for low-cost mammalian derived antibody biotherapeutic manufacturing. Process design at Just-Evotec means exposure to innovative technologies like high throughput automated robotic screening and continuous processing technologies for a first-of-its-kind flexible and reconfigurable manufacturing facility. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to drive impactful projects, collaborate with bright minds, and explore uncharted territories.

What You’ll Do

• Dive deep into purification process development for biotherapeutics, always looking for ways to improve and innovate.
• Accurately and consistently record laboratory work in electronic lab notebooks and paper batch records
• Compound purification buffers and solutions, assemble and pack chromatography column hardware
• Operate AKTA Avant & Pure systems using Unicorn software, Pendotech PMAT and four-channel NFF automated data collection systems, Repligen automated TFF systems, and glass washers
• Analytical results analysis from chromatography operations, organization and presentation of data, and report writing
• Support the transfer processes to manufacturing facilities
• Technology development to expand platform capabilities, reduce cost, and improve the efficiency of purification processes
• Regularly share your findings, ideas, and solutions in both team settings and presentations.

Who You Are

• A curious problem-solver with a passion for learning and growing in a dynamic environment.
• BS or MS degree in Engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related field
• Knowledgeable in mammalian derived downstream purification development, resin modalities (affinity, IEX, MM, HIC) and chromatography purification theory, and buffer compounding
• Normal and tangential flow filtration theory and operation for depth filtration, and UF/DF
• Experience executing laboratory scale viral filtration and single pass TFF operations
• Excellent experimental design and analysis skills, ideally including manipulation and presentation using JMP
• Experience with Microsoft Office apps (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing, able to share complex ideas in a simple, relatable way.
• A self-starter who takes initiative, owns your projects, and actively seeks out new challenges.

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be $78,000 to $82,000; Base salary offered may vary depending on individual’s skills, experience and competitive market value. Additional total rewards include discretionary annual bonus, comprehensive benefits to include Medical, Dental and Vision, short-term and long-term disability, company paid basic life insurance, 401k company match, flexible work, generous paid time off and paid holiday, wellness and transportation benefits.
