Job description

General Description

PREP Research Associate at the National Institute of Standards (NIST). The role involves collaborating with academic researchers on indoor localization, tracking, and navigation projects to support NIST’s scientific research initiatives.

Research Focus

Indoor Localization, Tracking, and Navigation.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct basic research to develop novel indoor localization methods, algorithms, and systems.
  • Evaluate performance using modeling, simulation, and prototype development when warranted.
  • Test and evaluate commercial‑off‑the‑shelf (COTS) indoor localization solutions.
  • Survey literature on pedestrian navigation techniques in indoor environments.
  • Assess the efficacy of 5G wireless technology and indoor localization techniques for public safety scenarios.
  • Read and analyze scholarly papers, write code for modeling and simulation, and prototype new systems.
  • Publish research results and deliver technical presentations.
  • Archive and document all protocols, software, and findings for the organization.
Qualifications
  • US citizenship preferred.
  • Doctoral degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field preferred but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of wireless communications, digital signal processing, and computer algorithms.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, and MATLAB.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience developing prototypes of indoor localization systems is a plus.
