Job summary

Silvus Technologies, a Motorola Solutions subsidiary, seeks an Associate R&D Test Engineer to join the R&D team. The role focuses on developing testing infrastructure and validating Silvus’ MANET radios and wireless products in lab and field environments.

You will report to the R&D Director, Communications Systems, and work onsite at our West Los Angeles HQ. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with 3 years of electronics experience; OR Associate degree with 1 year; OR Bachelor or higher.
  • Experience testing embedded systems.
  • Exposure to RF instruments: signal generators, spectrum analyzers, channel emulators.
  • U.S. Citizen for government-contract work.
  • Background check and drug test required.

Responsibilities

  • Wireless test operation, implementation and maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain testing software for automated tests and logging.
  • Collaborate with R&D and Engineering to understand requirements and troubleshoot.
  • Conduct lab testing with RF channel emulators and instruments.
  • Perform field tests to validate system performance in real environments.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Would you like to join an incredibly talented group of people, doing very challenging work, with the prime directive of "Keeping Our Heroes Connected"?


Silvus is seeking an Associate Research and Development (R&D) Test Engineer who will report to the R&D Director, Communications Systems. This position will be a part of the R&D team that develops testing infrastructure and performs comprehensive testing, vetting, and demonstration of Silvus’ MANET radios and other wireless products and technologies under development.


This position is fully onsite, Monday through Friday, at Silvus Technologies’ HQ in the heart of vibrant West Los Angeles.


The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion.


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Wireless communication system test operation, implementation, and maintenance.

  • Assist in the maintenance, design, and implementation of testing software for automated testing and logging.

  • Work closely with the R&D and Engineering teams to understand performance requirements and expected system behaviors, validate and assist in troubleshooting and qualification of new designs.

  • Conduct lab testing using wireless channel emulators and other instruments.

  • Conduct field testing to qualify system performance in a practical environment

  • Perform other related duties, of which the above are representative.

  • TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS - Occasional domestic travel away from the office, including overnight, to support experimentation and demonstration of cutting-edge technology under development.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • High School Diploma or GED with 3 years of experience in electronics work environment; OR an Associate degree with 1 year of experience; OR a Bachelor or higher degree from an accredited university or college.

  • Familiarity and experience working with testing embedded systems.

  • Exposure to the use of radio frequency instruments such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and channel emulators.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.

  • All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug test.


PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Proven experience in programming using C/C++, Python, or MATLAB.

  • Exposure to networked testing systems.

  • Experience in testing embedded radio communication systems.

  • General understanding of working in both Windows and Linux operations.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Office environment.

  • Trade shows.

  • Outdoor environment for demonstrations.

  • Occasional exposure to heat, cold, and allergens while performing tests or demonstrations in the field.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to do the following:

    • Lift equipment up to 20 lbs. for the set-up of demonstrations and testing.

    • Perform bending and reaching movements to place items on lower and higher shelves.

    • Kneeling or squatting to access lower shelves.




COMPENSATION: $72,000 - $85,000 / annually

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
