Job summary

D.R. Horton, Inc. is seeking an Associate Region Counsel to provide support on all regional legal matters with emphasis on land acquisition. The role reports to the Region Counsel and requires advising on contracts, compliance, and disputes in a dynamic homebuilding environment.

The candidate must hold a J.D., be licensed in Arizona, and bring 5–10 years of real estate/development experience. Proficiency with MS Office is expected and willingness to travel as required.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Juris Doctor and be licensed to practice law in Arizona.
  • 5–10 years of real estate or development experience.
  • Strong communication and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice related to land acquisition, development, and disposition, including drafting contracts and related documents.
  • Review and revise homebuyer contract documents.
  • Provide advice regarding RESPA issues, FHA/VA compliance and other issues.
  • Review, negotiate and revise subcontractor contract documents and disputes.
  • Review, negotiate and revise commercial lease documents for premises leased by the divisions.
  • Respond to government inquiries and complaints.
  • Provide advice regarding legal issues in construction, home sales and warranty.
  • Investigate, negotiate and resolve homebuyer and homeowner disputes.
  • Provide advice regarding various region matters and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Review marketing contracts and programs and draft documentation and disclosures as necessary.
  • Coordinate outside counsel as necessary.
  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase goodwill and profit.

D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for an Associate Region Counsel. The right candidate, under the direction of the Region Counsel, will, provide support, assistance and advice on all region’s legal matters, with an emphasis on land acquisition.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide legal advice related to land acquisition, development, and disposition, including drafting contracts and related documents, working with division personnel, and consulting with and coordinating outside counsel as necessary
  • Review and revise homebuyer contract documents
  • Provide advice regarding RESPA issues, FHA/VA compliance and other issues
  • Review, negotiate and revise subcontractor contract documents and disputes
  • Review, negotiate and revise commercial lease documents for premises leased by the divisions
  • Respond to government inquiries and complaints
  • Provide advice regarding legal issues in construction, home sales and warranty

  • Provide advice regarding various region matters and ensure that region and division policies , procedures and contracts comply with all applicable laws and regulations.

  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
  • Ability to travel overnight
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • May directly supervise 1 or more employees in the Legal Department in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Education and/or Experience
  • Must possess a Jurist Doctoral degree (J.D.) and be a licensed attorney in the State of Arizona
  • Five to ten years of real estate / development experience
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form or via DRH applications
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email.
  • Ability to sit for majority of workday, use a computer keyboard and monitor, speak and hear
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with corporate or environmental law
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and attention to detail
