Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an Associate Project Manager in the Nuclear Power Group. You will manage projects with engineers, designers, controls and scheduling professionals, coordinating across departments to drive design, modification, and analysis of nuclear plant projects.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor staff, and manage risks, schedule, and budgets, with occasional travel to client and vendor sites. The role is hybrid, requiring in-office work 3 days per week.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • 7 or more years of experience in the design and analysis of nuclear facilities.
  • 5 or more years of experience in project management / project coordination.
  • Experience in managing medium-to-large engineering projects.
  • Experience serving as firm/client liaison in a lead engineering role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Description

As an Associate Project Manager in the Nuclear Power Group, you will have the opportunity to manage project(s) consisting of engineers, designers, controls and scheduling professionals involved in the design, modification, and analysis of new and existing nuclear power plant modifications. The position will involve coordinating with multiple internal and external departments to manage the life cycle of project execution. As an Associate Project Manager you will be responsible to:

  • Work on diverse projects for various clients.
  • Support and overview all design and project aspects of multidisciplinary nuclear power team.
  • Direct the team leads in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of engineering, design, and construction support.
  • Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, with high quality, on time performance and to strict financial requirements.
  • Coordinate systems design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
  • Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and Sargent & Lundy formats.
  • Perform and provide independent reviews of work performed by others, including scopes of work, proposals, procurement specifications, and contract documents.
  • Prepare, review, and provide guidance for design calculations, develop specifications, and collaborate with designers for drawing development.
  • Oversee staff development, work delegation, and engagement. Mentor and coach team members.
  • Manage external relationships with engineering consultants and contractors, and joint venture relationships.
  • Execute projects by coordinating resources across disciplines, guiding engineers and designers through all phases of engineering design, and ensuring accountability within the project team.
  • Monitor and manage project performance, including safety, schedule, budget, reporting, and client relations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and control project / construction risk.
  • Manage scope changes.
  • Analyze issues and provide solutions to improve results.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely design completion.
  • Adhere and support Corporate policies, procedures and comply with required standards.
  • Occasionally travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.
  • Support the reporting of key performance indicators for schedule, budget and other dashboard items.
  • Recognize, identify, track and control change.

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Essential skills and experience:

  • BS in Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • 7 or more years of experience in the design and analysis of nuclear facilities.
  • 5 or more years of experience in project management/project coordination.
  • Experience in managing medium-to-large engineering projects.
  • Extensive knowledge and applied experience in all aspects of project engineering design.
  • Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.
  • Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to develop and motivate staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in providing guidance, mentoring, and training to staff engineers.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • PE or SE license.
  • PMP certificate.
  • MBA
  • Construction and start-up experience.
  • Commissioning experience.
  • Experience in managing the development of a new engineering team(s).
  • Experience in forecasting staffing needs, conducting staff performance evaluations, and assisting staff in curation of goals.
  • Project schedule and budget development and management.

Compensation Range

$100,019 - $152,807
