Job summary

Mesa Associates, Inc. seeks an Associate Project Manager I to oversee full lifecycle management of utility projects, from planning to closeout. The role emphasizes strong communication with clients, vendors, and engineers, plus active use of scheduling, budgeting, and risk-management practices to drive project success.

Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of project management principles and reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with engineering, construction, operations, procurement, and external vendors.
  • Monitor project performance metrics including earned value, cost variance, and schedule adherence.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and resolve technical/logistical challenges.
  • Communicate updates to clients and stakeholders and address concerns.
  • Maintain project management systems with status, resources, and milestones.

Mesa seeks an Associate Project Manager I that will be responsible for managing the full lifecycle of utility projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, execution, and closeout. The Associate Project Manager I leads cross-functional teams, coordinates with internal departments and external stakeholders, and ensures that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills. Ability to coordinate with and interface with clients, vendors, engineers, colleagues, and other electric utility personnel.
  • Understanding of project management principles and familiarity with scheduling and reporting tools.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to build relationships and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to develop, promote, and comply with Mesa safety requirements.

  • Proactive and stays on top of every aspect of the job and project.

What You’ll Do
  • Coordinate with engineering, construction, operations, procurement, and external vendors.
  • Monitor project performance metrics including earned value, cost variance, and schedule adherence.
  • Identify and mitigating project risks and resolving technical and logistical challenges.
  • Communicate regularly with clients and stakeholders to provide updates and address concerns.
  • Proactively communicate and promote Mesa capabilities and strengths to their assigned customers. In interfacing with potential or existing clients, listens for and seeks out new project opportunities that solves the needs of the client.
  • Preparing meeting agendas, documenting meeting minutes, and tracking action items.
  • Updating project management systems and tools with task status, resource assignments, and milestone progress.
  • Participating in project kickoff, status, and closeout meetings.
  • Assisting with identifying and communicating project risks and issues.
  • Learning and applying project management tools, methodologies, and best practices.
