Job summary

Chesterfield County’s Economic Development team seeks a qualified professional to assist with site and building reviews for active projects and to track permits and site plans related to commercial development.

You will support the Economic Development Authority on real estate matters, cultivate relationships with developers, and manage development activity in Technology Zones, coordinating with permit applicants.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, Architecture, Engineering or Urban & Regional Planning with at least one year of experience in public or private sector real estate development or with an equivalent combination of training and experience. Understanding of basic building code and zoning ordinance. Ability to read basic construction documents and plan sheets (building drawings and site plans). Project management, construction management and commercial real estate experience is helpful.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

This position's ability to professionally and effectively assist both new and existing businesses with their operations in Chesterfield County is extremely important to both the companies' success and the County's future economic development efforts. It is important that this position develops and maintains strong working relationships with County personnel (especially Community Development), economic development allies, the development community, and our corporate citizens. In addition, project management tasks are critical and often varied, thereby requiring flexibility and good organizational skills. Given the importance of information monitored or reviewed by this position, attention to detail and accuracy is imperative. Flexibility and good organizational skills are required to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Good judgment is critical to addressing customer needs and concerns.
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the preceding twenty-four months, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.

Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.

• Support Chesterfield Economic Development Authority on real estate matters.


• Establish and maintain relationships with development industry leaders and County partners.


• Manage and process development activity that occurs within designated Technology Zones and communicate with permit applicants.


• Performs other work as required.
