Job description

Be Valued for Being You.

FSU/Lee Health is seeking an Associate Program Director to support the FSU College of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency Program at Cape Coral Hospital!!

Lee Health is a nonprofit organization with more than 17,000 employees, 4,500 volunteers, and more than 1,200 employed primary care and specialty care providers with multiple practice locations throughout Southwest Florida. The organization has four acute care hospitals and one specialty hospital that together house over 1,800 hospital beds.

The Florida State University College of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency Program consists of enthusiastic and experienced internists who love to teach, supported by highly motivated subspecialty faculty. We are dedicated to training highly professional, competent, empathetic, and outstanding physicians in an academic and collegial environment. We prepare residents for primary care, fellowship, and hospitalist careers of the future involving technology with a strong accent on hands-on experience and bedside teaching.

Position Information:

Build a legacy.

The Associate Program Director ("APD") of the Internal Medicine Residency Program will assist the Program Director in the administrative and clinical oversight of the Program including maintaining compliance with the Accreditation Council for Graduation Medical Education ("ACGME") Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Internal Medicine. The APD is directly responsible to the Program Director and must participate in academic societies and in educational programs designed to enhance the APD's educational and administrative skills. This is a new, exciting role that involves providing clinical patient care and mentoring residents, while also serving as an expert competency evaluator.

During training, residents will participate in a broad-based program of graduate medical education in multiple clinical disciplines within the supportive environment and close-knit community of Cape Coral and Lee Health. Due to a shortage of physicians in Southwest Florida, we hope that our residents will have such an exceptional experience here that our graduates would consider staying in the area to practice or, after completion of their advanced training programs, that our graduates would consider returning to the area to practice

Job Duties:

The APD will perform all duties required of an APD as set forth in the ACGME Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Internal Medicine including the following:

Assist the Program Director with the following: Oversee and ensure the quality of didactic and clinical education at all sites that participate in the Program

Evaluate Program faculty and approve the continued participation of Program faculty based on evaluation

Prepare and submit all information required and requested by the ACGME in a timely manner, this includes but not limited to, Program application forms and supplements, and annual Program updates

Notify the Executive Director of the Review Committee when there is any change in the accreditation status for the sponsoring Program

Ensure compliance with grievances and due process procedures as set forth in the institutional requirements and implemented by the sponsoring institution

Provide verification of residency education for all residents, including those who leave the Program before completion

Monitor and ensure compliance with the residents' duty hours and work environment; Adjust schedules as necessary to mitigate excessive service demands and fatigue

Monitor the need for and ensure the provision of backup support when patient census exceeds the ability to provide coverage

Comply with the sponsoring institution's written policies and procedures for the selection, evaluation, and promotion of residents, in addition to disciplinary actions

Be familiar and comply with ACGME and IM-Review Committee policies and procedures as outlined in the ACGME manual

Maintain permanent records on each resident including appointment to the Program, individual curriculum, including electives and requested rotations; Provide residents with all documents pertaining to the training program

Provide the performance evaluation of residents twice a year

Oversee the coordination of all schedules including lectures and educational sessions and provide a method to document residents' attendance
