Job summary

Qualifications

• Substantive knowledge or experience in alliances, security partnerships, or defense diplomacy.
• Ability to conduct rigorous research and produce policy-relevant work.
• Ability to teach, facilitate, and mentor adult learners from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to communicate complex political and military issues to practitioners.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage complex programs.
• Ability to work as a collegial, collaborative faculty member.
• Proficiency with contemporary technologies and digital tools in research and teaching.
• Commitment to the DKI APCSS mission and Indo-Pacific security cooperation.

Essential Criteria

• An advanced degree in international relations, security studies, political science, strategic studies, military studies, public policy, Asian studies, or a related discipline. A doctorate or other terminal degree is preferred.
• Demonstrated substantive knowledge, research, or professional experience related to alliances, security partnerships, coalition operations, security cooperation, defense diplomacy, regional security architecture, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous research, analyze contemporary security issues, and produce scholarly or policy-relevant work.
• Demonstrated ability to teach, facilitate, and mentor adult learners from diverse professional, national, and cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to communicate complex political, strategic, institutional, and military issues clearly to practitioner audiences.
• Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and execute complex projects or programs.
• Ability to work effectively as a collegial, collaborative, and team-oriented faculty member.
• Ability to use contemporary technologies and digital tools in research, teaching, collaboration, and program execution.
• Demonstrated commitment to the DKI APCSS mission and to advancing security cooperation and understanding throughout the Indo-Pacific.

• U.S.-Japan alliance

• U.S.-Philippines alliance
• Japan-Republic of Korea security cooperation
• Trilateral and minilateral security cooperation
• NATO or other comparative alliance experience relevant to the Indo-Pacific
• Indo-Pacific regional security architecture

Additional desired experience includes:

• Research, professional, military, government, or field experience involving one or more U.S. allies or security partners in the Indo-Pacific.
• Experience working with or studying ministries of defense, foreign affairs, military organizations, combatant commands, international organizations, policy institutions, or allied and partner governments.
• Experience examining the political and institutional dimensions of coalition interoperability, burden sharing, role differentiation, or allied contributions to collective security.
• Experience in teaching, facilitation, executive education, strategic engagement, policy dialogue, exercises, or multinational workshops.
• Experience building professional networks and fostering collaboration among individuals from diverse national, institutional, and professional backgrounds.
• Foreign-language capability relevant to the Indo-Pacific.
