University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP) seeks an Associate/Professor in Pediatric Ophthalmology (Section Chief) to lead education, clinical services, and scholarly activity in Peoria, IL.

  • 3-5 year Clinical experience in the field of pediatric ophthalmology.
  • Experience in teaching medical students and residents in the area of pediatric ophthalmology.
  • Leadership experience in program development.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain effective education programs in Pediatric Ophthalmology for medical students and residents.
  • Stimulate and nurture scholarly activity within the Division and strengthen current research portfolio.
  • Expand clinical service program to meet regional needs.
  • Develop a vision for expansion and growth of current clinical services.
  • Provide leadership to support the faculty in the Division of Ophthalmology to achieve excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research.
  • Sustain an existing collaborative environment for other subspecialists and facilitate high-complexity patient care.
  • Support quality improvement efforts and safety initiatives within the Division and Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
  • Direct and conduct research in Pediatric Ophthalmology.
  • Provide care for patients with Ophthalmologic diseases; offer consultations and ambulatory care.
  • Collaborate with ancillary services to ensure high-quality, patient- and family-centered care.
  • Perform duties of a university faculty member including committees and curriculum development.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects.

Position Summary

The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, Department of Pediatrics is seeking a pediatric ophthalmologist with a track record in healthcare leadership and program development for the position of Section Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain effective education programs in Pediatric Ophthalmology for medical students and residents. Collaborate with other faculty in maintaining excellence in general pediatric education.
  • Stimulate and nurture scholarly activity within the Division and strengthen current research portfolio.
  • Expand clinical service program to meet regional needs.
  • Develop a vision for expansion and growth of current clinical services.
  • Provide leadership to support the faculty in the Division of Ophthalmology to achieve excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research.
  • Sustain an existing supportive and collaborative environment for other subspecialists thus facilitating programs that care for high complexity patients.
  • Support quality improvement efforts and safety initiatives within the Division and Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
  • Direct and conduct his/her own research in Pediatric Ophthalmology
  • Provide care for patients with Ophthalmologic diseases admitted to Children’s Hospital of Illinois, consultation and support to other services and manage patients in ambulatory clinics.
  • Collaborate with other ancillary services to provide high quality, safe, and individualized patient, and family centered care.
  • Perform duties of a university faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development and administration
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years ophthalmology residency and 1-year AAPOS approved pediatric ophthalmology fellowship.
  • Board Certified in Ophthalmology
  • Eligible for licensure in Illinois
  • 3-5 year Clinical experience in the field of pediatric ophthalmology
  • Experience in teaching medical students and residents in the area of pediatric ophthalmology

The budgeted salaryrange for the position is $320,000 to $370,000 per year.

Salary iscompetitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while alsoconsidering internal equity.
