Job summary

OHSU’s Department of Psychiatry is seeking an Associate Professor / Director for Faculty Development to lead faculty growth at all stages of their careers. The role is a 0.20 FTE position within a prestigious academic medical setting.

The Director will partner with the Chair, Vice Chairs, and Education leaders to implement onboarding, career development, and promotion activities, ensuring CME/CEU compliance and national collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Must be Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Must be certified by their affiliated specialty organization and meet maintenance of certification requirements.
  • Leadership experience and demonstrated effectiveness in program development and mentoring are required.

Department Overview

The Department of Psychiatry is recruiting for a .20 FTE position as the Director of Faculty Development.

Function/Duties of Position

The Director of Faculty Development will develop and support the Department of Psychiatry faculty at all stages of professional development (from onboarding new faculty to integrating emeritus faculty) such that all psychiatry faculty see OHSU as an academic home where they can thrive.

Specific Duties:

  1. Work with the Chair, Vice Chairs, Division and Training Directors, and the Director of Patient Quality and Safety to identify faculty development activities at OHSU and nationally
  2. Develop and continuously update new faculty orientation information and onboarding that facilitates an understanding of opportunities for professional development and promotion
  3. Develop appropriate departmental listservs or mailing lists, including alumni lists, to apprise subgroups of faculty of upcoming opportunities and maintain connectedness
  4. Assist the Chair with faculty recruitments and searches to recruit academic faculty who will become leaders
  5. Work with division/discipline heads and educational, clinical, and/or research mentors to help craft career plans for individual faculty as appropriate
  6. Maintain availability for one-on-one mentoring; train division/discipline directors to assist their faculty through an established coaching program.
  7. Meet with faculty identified through the annual review process or Promotion and Tenure review who could benefit from career coaching
  8. Help to identify and support with letters of recommendation appropriate faculty nominees for important positions or awards that become available
  9. Evaluate specific funding requests for faculty development opportunities, in consultation with the Chair
  10. With the Chair and the Department of Psychiatry Promotion and Tenure Committee, develop a departmental program for promotion preparation, and participate in annual P+T workshops
  11. Serve as regular or ex officio member of the Department of Psychiatry Promotion and Tenure Committee
  12. Liaise with School of Medicine academic committees to ensure that relevant activities are made known to women faculty within the department
  13. Liaise with OHSU's Center for Diversity and Inclusion to help recruit, retain, and promote faculty

Additional Responsibilities and Expected Program Development:

The Director for Faculty Development will:

  1. Create and nurture peer mentoring programs specific to faculty academic rank and/or interest in collaboration with the Vice Chairs, Division and Training Directors, and the Director of Patient Quality and Safety. Expected outcomes include (a) supportive faculty hubs that lead to a sense of community and job satisfaction and (b) additional opportunities for faculty to collaborate and develop along their desired academic trajectory.
  2. Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a Department of Psychiatry faculty development program that supports the professional growth, advancement, career satisfaction, and wellness of faculty:
    1. Establish objectives for programs based on needs assessment (individual, division/discipline, and department) and in response to national trends
    2. Develop division/discipline directors to become effective coaches for their faculty
    3. Develop and administer programs focused specifically on enhancing the skills and competence of faculty across the continuum
    4. Plan and administer a Faculty Development Forum program
    5. Work with the Grand Rounds Committee to integrate faculty development into their offerings
    6. Work with the Education Manager to develop and implement annual review processes that facilitate reflection on career goals and individual development planning
    7. Seek grant funding and other external support for programs
    8. Ensure compliance with OHSU policies and procedures and CME/CEU requirements
    9. Collaborate with institutional partners in professional development:
  3. Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Faculty Development and with professional development leaders in other departments to advance the Department of Psychiatry faculty development program
  4. Maintain a thorough knowledge of faculty development opportunities at OHSU
  5. Collaborate with leaders of the established centralized professional development programs (e.g., Pathways to Leadership, Educational Scholars Program) to both recruit participants and expand impact for participants
  6. Establish and maintain a national presence in faculty development
  7. Work with national leaders to develop and disseminate curricula and evaluate programmatic and individual outcomes of OHSU faculty development programs

Required Qualifications

  • Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Must be certified by their affiliated specialty organization and meet the requirements of maintenance of certification (if applicable).
  • Leadership experience and demonstrated effectiveness in program development and mentoring are required.
