Job summary

Google is seeking a Corporate Counsel to provide strategic legal guidance for security and sovereignty offerings across products and partnerships. You will work with product, engineering, and policy teams to shape compliance and risk management as the business moves forward.

The role sits within the Cloud Security Legal team, focusing on regulatory impacts, incident response collaboration, and scalable legal support for Google Cloud’s security initiatives.

Qualifications

  • JD/LL.B. or equivalent degree and bar admission in the state where position is located.
  • 3 years of attorney-level experience in-house or at a law firm.
  • Experience counseling on security or sovereignty products and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal guidance to product, engineering, and policy teams building security and sovereignty offerings.
  • Partner with incident, outage, and vulnerability response teams to set strategy and scale approaches.
  • Analyze global cybersecurity and sovereignty regulations to provide pragmatic risk assessments throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support commercial legal and sales teams on customer inquiries and negotiations involving security and sovereignty matters.

Job description

In accordance with Washington state law, we are highlighting our comprehensive benefits package, which is available to all eligible US based employees. Benefits for this role include:

Minimum qualifications
  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
  • 3 years of attorney-level experience in-house, or at a law firm.
  • Experience counseling on security or sovereignty products and regulations.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience advising enterprise or cloud companies.
  • Experience leading projects with clients and colleagues and directly advising the highest levels of executive leadership.
  • Experience in utilizing AI tools to streamline and scale legal support.
  • Ability to support new and emerging regulations, and to develop knowledge on first of a kind issues.
  • Ability to work on their own and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent investigative, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to explain legal issues clearly and concisely to non-legal stakeholders.

The Cloud Security Legal team supports Google Cloud’s suite of security and sovereignty offerings. The team advises product, engineering, policy, and compliance teams on the impact of global cybersecurity and sovereignty regulations on Cloud’s business and customers. This role initially focuses on several of the following areas: security incidents, outages, vulnerabilities, and digital sovereignty. In this role, you will partner with incident, outage, and vulnerability response teams to set response strategy, determine reporting obligations, and design scalable approaches in the wake of the agentic revolution. Additionally, you will support clients and key stakeholders as they build products and advocacy strategies in response to shifting customer and regulator expectations with respect to sovereignty.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $217000 - $315000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits
