Job summary

Calvary Baptist Church is seeking an Associate Pastor of Connections to develop ministry teams, recruit leaders, and shepherd worship across congregational and home-group settings.

The role focuses on worship coordination with the Senior Pastor, recruitment of musicians and a commitment to biblical teaching and outreach. 5–7 years’ experience and a Bible-related degree are preferred.

ASSOCIATE PASTOR OF CONNECTIONS

POSITION OVERVIEW:

At Calvary Baptist Church, we are working to create a safe place where people can connect with God and with one another as we all grow in Christ. We are looking for an Associate Pastor to join us and help us in 3 key areas: developing robust ministry teams, welcome and assimilation and congregational and personal worship.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ministry teams

Every church consists of a wide variety of ministry teams that focus on specific needs. This individual would assist all the ministry teams in recruiting and training leaders, workers and volunteers. We believe every member is gifted by God and called to serve in a ministry to help others grow. To facilitate that, every believer needs to be part of a small group home community where they can grow and see where they “fit” in service.

Worship

Every Christian must be connected to God in worship in 3 key ways: we need congregational worship, worship in home groups and private worship. This pastor would focus on all 3 areas beginning with the Sunday morning service. He would coordinate and actively participate in the worship experience alongside the Senior Pastor. He would lead and recruit the worship team, musicians, singers and the sound booth. He would also help maintain effective communication among everyone involved. In short, he would “shepherd” the whole worship ministry.

Welcome and assimilation

Calvary is a growing church with many visitors. We need to enhance the pathway where first‑time guests can grow into fully engaged and serving members. This would involve helping people move from visiting, next‑step decisions, new believer care, baptism, and membership, leading to lifelong discipleship.

Calvary

Calvary is a medium sized Baptist church of about a 175 people. Our goal is to make fully committed followers of Jesus by experiencing his unconditional love.We are creating a safe place where we can be His disciples through all of life’s ups and downs. We are a gospel-centered church with a nice mix of not‑yet believers, growing Christians, and mature followers. We are an Elder-led congregation with a great Teaching Pastor and several Elders. We have a growing Sunday school, an active youth group and a variety of other ministries. We presently have 16 home groups focused on discipleship through worship, prayer, and bible study.

Elko

Elko is in the high desert of northeastern Nevada. The county has a population of 55,000 with 20,000 comprising of Elko and 15,000 in the adjacent community of Spring Creek. Elko was settled in 1868 to support mining and ranching. Because of many mountain ranges and the famous Ruby Mountains (elevation 11,387), the area offers great opportunities for hunting, fishing, skiing, camping, hiking and many other outdoor activities. The area has two major high schools, several elementary and middle schools and a community college, which feeds the University of Nevada. Elko is a great place to live.

Qualifications:

The candidate must show a strong personal relationship to our Lord Jesus and a clear calling to serve Him.

He will be a man of proven character who exemplifies 1 Timothy and Titus 1 qualities. He will be a man of prayer.

We are looking for a man who has a Pastor’s heart and a gentle way with people.

The ideal candidate should have 5 to 7 years of relevant experience with at least a Bachelor’s degree in the Bible or a similar field. He will have a strong commitment to music and worship.

He will have a passion for and a commitment to biblical teaching and preaching.

We envision someone with an adventurous spirit; one who is ready for a big challenge, who is fun‑loving and someone we’d like to go out to coffee with.

This person will have strong interpersonal skills with an aptitude for time management, delegation, and communication abilities.

We are looking for someone who can happily submit to Calvary’s vision and leadership and help us be the church that God wants us to be.

Salary will be commensurate with experience, qualifications and individual needs. The benefits include health coverage, vacation, and ministry expenses.
