Job description

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is seeking a new Associate Pastor. Through the word of God and by the power of the Holy Spirit our Associate Pastor is called to serve our Lord in this congregation and work together with our Lead Pastor in a mutually supportive relationship. The Associate Pastor will be entrusted to teach, inspire, guide and equip us to grow as a welcoming, loving, community of believers in Jesus.The Associate Pastor will join us in allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us as we humbly submit to the truth of our Lord's Word. The general pastoral responsibilities of the Associate Pastor described below will be carried out with the support and cooperation of the Lead Pastor.

New Associate Pastor’s Role
Specific Responsibilities

Will provide spiritual leadership and pastoral care to the congregation fostering a culture of faith, love and service.

Will develop and deliver engaging biblically-based sermons during worship services as well as on special occasions and events. The practice at OSLC for the past 28 years has been equally shared preaching responsibilities and it is recommended that this practice continue.

Will plan and Lead services collaborating with the worship team and ensuring that services are meaningful and spiritually enriching.

Will provide pastoral care for members of the congregation including visiting the sick, counseling those in need and offering support during times of crisis.

Will facilitate and encourage spiritual growth and discipleship through the development and implementation of small group ministries bible studies and other educational programs.

Will work with church leadership and staff to establish and execute a vision and a strategic plan for church growth and leadership development.

Will support the staff and ministry of Our Savior's Christian School by being a pastor to the students and teachers, assisting in Chapel Services, along with other OSLC Ministry staff.

Will engage and build relationships within the local community participating in outreach and mission activities and collaborating with other organizations to address community needs.

Will work with the lead Pastor to mentor and support OSLC staff and volunteers, fostering a positive collaborative work environment with robust leadership.

Perform other pastoral duties including weddings, funerals, baptisms and dedications as requested.

Qualifications

Must be a roster pastor of the NALC ( North American Lutheran Church).

MDiv (Master of Divinity) degree or higher.

Pastoral Ministry experience (it would be helpful if some or all of this experience was in a multiple staff congregational setting).

Must possess the following: personal relationship with Jesus, integrity, passion, vision, humility, fiscal responsibility, purpose driven, good communication skills, encouraging, mentoring skills, peaceful, patient, a teacher, gentle, not quick-tempered, demonstrated perseverance.

Compensation

The Associate Pastor will receive a salary based on ministry experience and education. He or she will also receive a housing allowance commensurate with cost of living in Oregon, full medical benefits (including family), and retirement benefits. In addition, the Associate Pastor will receive four weeks per year of vacation, and two weeks each year of continuing education.

Defined compensation: $77,467-$85,214 Depends on experience. Negotiable at time of Call.

Worship: two Sunday-morning worship services – Traditional and Contemporary

Sunday morning education opportunities: average 30 children/youth, and 50 adults

During-the-week:

9 dynamic Bible studies

Middle and high school youth group, youth events, and children’s events

27 ongoing ministries offering avenues for service and outreach.

22 ministries dedicated to fostering meaningful connections, discipleship, and joyful interactions.

Church Staff, including pastors, ministry staff and support staff: 15 (10 FTEs)

VBS for 150-300 children (annually)

School enrollment: 168 (Pre-K through 5th Grade)

School administrators, teachers and aides: 25 paid positions (full- & part-time)

Our Surrounding Community

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is located in Oregon’s capital and third-largest city, Salem. Salem is close to many recreational and cultural activities, with the ocean, mountains, and Portland each one hour away.

The largest employer in Salem is the State of Oregon. Second is Salem Health, which provides care for a large population in the central Willamette Valley. The valley is a rich agricultural region producing berries, hazelnuts, grass seed, nursery stock, Christmas trees, fruit trees, and grapes.

The Salem Keizer school district is strong with 43 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, 6 high schools, and several charter and alternative schools. Private Christian schools serve students from preschool through high school. Salem is home to Willamette University, Corban University, and Chemeketa Community College, with Western Oregon University 15 miles away.
