Job summary

Responsibilities

• Attend Elder and Executive Board meetings.
• Oversee Sunday night services and preach when needed.
• Lead 1–2 Wednesday Prayer Meeting/Bible Studies per month.
• Meet with the Senior Pastor twice each month aside from scheduled events.
• Preach for Sunday morning service when the Senior Pastor is unavailable and back up senior pastor duties as needed.
• Pray and plan for evangelistic work; promote missions; disciple and visit members as appropriate.

About the Role

• Major Duties and Responsibilities: Attend and participate in all the Elder and Executive Board meetings. Oversee Sunday night services (this includes preaching at Sunday night services, unless a missionary or special speaker is scheduled). Lead and teach 1-2 Wednesday evening Prayer Meeting/Bible Studies per month. Meet with the Senior Pastor twice each month aside from scheduled events. Preach for the Sunday morning service when the Senior Pastor is unavailable and generally provide backup support for the Senior Pastor duties.
• Minor Duties and Responsibilities: Pray and plan for evangelistic work; promote the interest of missions; assist in the spiritual upbringing of members; visit the unsaved and sick; engage in personal visitation with the Elders and Senior Pastor.

Requirements

Qualifications for the Job: The man selected for this position must meet the qualifications for pastors laid out in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. He must be in substantial agreement with the doctrinal statement of Manchester Community Church. He must be willing to become a member of Manchester Community Church. The candidate must be able to teach. He must be teachable. He must be a team player. He must be God and Scripture oriented, rather than primarily focused on promoting church growth or satisfying the culture.

Preferred, But Not Required: The position is flexible to adapt to the gifting and skills of the man who fills it. If the Associate/Assistant Pastor is experienced or skilled in music, working with youth, working with elderly, discipleship, counseling, or visitor assimilation, it is hoped he will lend his talents in these directions as time and interest allows. This could also include administrative duties or support, event and activities coordinating or leadership, and media involvement. The man selected for this position should live within 20 minutes’ drive of the church. He should be comfortable with the church’s more organic, less programmatic culture.
