Job summary

The Options Clearing Corporation in Chicago is seeking a detail-oriented legal support professional to assist the Legal department with regulatory filings, document management, and internal controls. You will draft memoranda, track progress on filings, liaise with internal stakeholders and outside counsel, and help maintain corporate records in a fast-paced environment.

A paralegal certificate and prior in-house or law firm experience are preferred; hybrid work options and competitive benefits

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent professional training in a related field.
  • Experience in an in-house legal department or law firm preferred.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and assist in the preparation of legal memoranda, rule filings and exhibits and other legal documents, policies, and procedures
  • Attend internal governance meetings and draft notes, including complex and technical subjects
  • Prepare and track regulatory filings or projects for stakeholders
  • Communicate status of filings and updates with internal teams
  • Manage confidentiality requests, including FOIA requests, to regulators
  • Follow department policies, procedures, and controls and keep records updated
  • Interface with outside counsel as needed
  • Perform legal internet research as requested
  • Maintain electronic corporate files, databases, and directories
  • Track compliance with internal departmental requirements
  • Assist with maintaining Legal department records per retention schedules
  • Assist with other projects as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What You'll Do

This role will work closely with Legal department management, attorneys and other legal professionals to assist with the administrative functions necessary to ensure the processes associated with legal risk and complying with regulatory requirements are managed appropriately.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Draft and assist in the preparation of legal memoranda, rule filings and exhibits and other legal documents, policies, and procedures
  • Attend company internal governance group meetings and draft notes for same, often regarding complex and technical subject matter
  • Prepare, maintain and share with appropriate stakeholders documents that track progress on several different regulatory filings or projects
  • Effectively communicate the status of regulatory filings and other related updates with internal stakeholders
  • Manage and submit confidentiality requests, including FOIA requests, to regulators
  • Understand, manage, and follow department policies, procedures, and controls, as well as track the updating of same
  • Interface with outside counsel, as needed, with respect to matters described above
  • Perform internet and legal research as requested
  • Update and maintain electronic corporate files, databases, email, web-based materials and directories
  • Track and ensure compliance with internal departmental requirements
  • Assist in the maintenance of Legal department records in accordance with company records retention schedule and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Assist with other projects as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Well-organized and capable of handling several substantial assignments at the same time
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently as well as on a team and to quickly shift priorities in response to changing business environment or priorities
  • Excellent analytical, written and oral communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively, including through effective communication, with internal clients from different departments
  • Ability to promptly produce high-quality, accurate, and detailed work product, often regarding complex and technical subject matters
  • Ability to work in a capacity with strict privacy and confidentiality requirements
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Sharepoint, JIRA, and project management
  • Experience with Claude, or other AI tools
Education and/or Experience
  • Degree from an accredited college or university
  • In-house legal department or law firm experience
Certificates or Licenses
  • Paralegal certificate

Compensation
  • Salary Range $63,200.00 - $87,900.00
  • Incentive Range 6% to 10% (annual discretionary incentive compensation award)
