Center for AI Safety (CAIS) is a leading nonprofit focused on mitigating AI risks. We seek an Operations Associate in San Francisco to own core workflows across office, systems, and people operations. You are a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and aligns with CAIS’s mission.
You will support onboarding, IT provisioning, events, and facilities while proposing smarter processes to scale operations as the organization grows.
The Center for AI Safety (CAIS) is a leading research and advocacy organization focused on mitigating societal-scale risks from AI. Some of our past achievements include: releasing the most widely usedmeasure of AI capabilities used by all major AI companies, running a large compute cluster to facilitate AI safety research which has been cited over 16,000 times , and publishing a global statement on AI Risk signed by Geoffrey Hinton, Yoshua Bengio and top AI CEOs.
This is a full-time, on-site role in San Francisco (local candidates only). The Operations Associate helps keep CAIS running smoothly day to day by owning core operational workflows across the office, systems, and people operations. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who learns quickly, takes initiative, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You're motivated by CAIS's AI safety mission and understand that enabling the team to do high-impact work is itself high-impact work. You're comfortable with ambiguity, can move quickly, and bring strong judgment about when to act independently versus when to elevate. This role offers significant growth potential as operations scales alongside the organization.
