Responsabilidades

• Assist in building, testing, and maintaining software components and supporting infrastructure.
• Support development and maintenance of automated data pipelines and model deployment processes.
• Contribute to cloud-based ML solutions using AWS, Databricks and Spark.
• Participate in CI/CD processes to improve automation, reliability and efficiency.
• Monitor ML applications and investigate issues with guidance from senior team members.
• Document technical solutions, processes and lessons learned for knowledge sharing.
• Participate in cross-functional discussions to ensure alignment and drive project success.
• Follow established software engineering, ML, security and governance best practices.
• Continue to develop technical skills through training and hands-on projects.

Associate Engineer Machine Learning

Position Overview

Paylocity is growing its Machine Learning Engineering organization! Our machine learning engineering team is responsible for developing infrastructure and tooling to help enable data driven decisions and insights at scale for millions of Paylocity users. As an Associate Machine Learning Engineer in Product & Technology, you will contribute to the development, deployment, and support of machine learning solutions that help our teams build better products faster and more reliably.

In this role, you will help support partnership with internal teams such as Data Science, Data Engineering, Paylocity’s Cloud Center of Excellence (CCOE), DevOps, and Delivery Platforms to understand requirements and ensure alignment of machine learning engineering solutions with overall business objectives and priorities. You will assist with developing machine learning pipelines, supporting model deployments, and improving infrastructure that powers AI and machine learning capabilities across the organization.

The ideal candidate is passionate about machine learning, software engineering, cloud technologies, and continuous learning. This position provides opportunities to gain hands‑on experience with modern machine learning platforms, cloud infrastructure, and large‑scale data environments while working alongside experienced engineering professionals.

This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from home or location of record within the U.S. with no in‑office requirements. You must be available five days per week during designated work hours. The work arrangement for this role is subject to change based on business needs and individual performance. This may include adjustments to on‑site requirements or schedule expectations, as necessary.

Primary Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Machine Learning Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, DevOps, and other technology teams to understand requirements and support development of machine learning solutions aligned with business objectives.
• Assist in building, testing, and maintaining software components and supporting infrastructure.
• Support the development and maintenance of automated data pipelines and model deployment processes.
• Contribute to cloud-based machine learning solutions utilizing technologies such as AWS, Databricks, and Spark.
• Participate in CI/CD processes and help improve automation, reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Monitor machine learning applications and investigate issues with guidance from senior team members.
• Document technical solutions, processes, and lessons learned to support knowledge sharing.
• Participate in cross‑functional meetings and discussions, providing feedback, commentary, requirements, and questions to ensure alignment and drive project success.
• Follow established software engineering, machine learning, security, and governance best practices.
• Continuously develop technical skills through training, mentorship, and hands‑on project experience.

Education And Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field required.
• 0-2 years of experience in machine learning engineering, software engineering, data engineering, or related technical roles.
• Internship, academic research, capstone project, or equivalent experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or software development preferred.
• Experience with Python through coursework, projects, internships, or professional experience.
• Strong foundational understanding of machine learning concepts, algorithms, and model development processes.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP preferred.
• Familiarity with software development practices including version control, testing, and code review processes.
• Basic understanding of data engineering concepts and data pipeline development.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non‑technical teams.
• Demonstrated curiosity, learning agility, and commitment to continuous improvement.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while seeking guidance when needed.

Preferred Skills

• Professional or academic experience in HR, social science or psychology
• Contributions to open‑source software in Python
• Enthusiastic about how machine learning and infrastructure can lead to a superior customer experience.
• Be invested in staying current in machine learning and infrastructure by applying new technologies and practices

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day.
• Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems, and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously.

The base pay range for this position is $106,900 - $152,700/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position offers a full range of benefits outlined here. This information is provided per the relevant state and local pay transparency laws for the location in which this position will be performed. Base pay information is based on market location.
