Job summary

Boeing Commercial Airplanes Materials & Processes (BCA M&P) seeks an Associate Interiors Payloads Support Engineer (Level 2) to provide M&P engineering support to the 787 Program and Interiors Responsibility Center (IRCSC) in North Charleston, SC.

The role requires knowledge of interiors materials and processes used in aerospace, including composites, metals, finishes and fasteners. Strong problem solving and collaboration with design, production and supplier teams are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry.
• Experience with composites, metals, finishes, or fasteners.
• Experience supporting the production system.
• 2+ years of experience in an Engineering or Manufacturing environment; reading and interpreting drawings/specifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist with definition of requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts/processes used in the engineering design.
• Support design engineers in material and process definition and selection of Interiors components and flight deck structures.
• Review drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with material and process requirements and objectives.
• Communicate with technical and non-technical personnel to evaluate information and issues affecting design, production, and support.
• Continued on-the-job training to develop knowledge of Boeing systems, requirements, and material and process technology.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes Materials & Processes (BCA M&P) is seeking an Associate Interiors Payloads Support Engineer (Level 2) to provide M&P engineering support to the 787 Program and Interiors Responsibility Center (IRCSC) in South Carolina (IRCSC), located in North Charleston/Ladson, SC.

This role requires knowledge and/or experience with all categories of Interiors materials and processes used in aerospace. These technologies include: composites, thermoplastics, thermosets, metals, fasteners, adhesives, sealants, organic and inorganic finishes, and corrosion principles. We seek detail-oriented, curious engineers who enjoy learning across Payloads/Interiors. Candidates with experience in composites, finishes, metals, or fasteners are especially encouraged to apply.

Position Responsibilities

• Assist with definition of requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts/processes used in the engineering design
• Support design engineers in material and process definition and selection of our Interiors components and flight deck structures
• Review drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with material and process requirements and objectives
• Understand engineering requirements and specifications to support material and process design consultation, production support, and fleet support
• Communicate with technical and non-technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information and issues impacting design, production, and support of products, services, or other deliverables
• Continued on-the-job training to develop knowledge of Boeing systems, requirements, and material and process technology
• Assist in developing tests to qualify new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
• Support activities to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements; Integrate new materials and processes
• Conduct routine analysis to determine performance or reasons for failures of tools, materials, parts/processes
• Assist in Implementing corrective and preventive actions
• Use project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
• Incorporate environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into materials and processes, research, design and qualification, and work procedures
• Possess and encourage others to have a mindset of Safety and First Pass Quality
• Influence others to exhibit Boeing Values and Behaviors

This position may require up to 10-15% travel.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry
• Experience with composites, metals, finishes, or fasteners
• Experience supporting the production system
• 2+ years of experience in an Engineering or Manufacturing environment2+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and/or specifications

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

• 2+ years of experience in Materials and Process Engineering
• Self starter with professional verbal and written communication skills
• Experience with safety and quality processes
