Job summary

Pew Research Center in Washington, DC offers an Associate I, Program Planning and Budget (Hybrid) role in the Finance Department. The position supports budgeting, journal entries, monthly reporting, and special projects across Pew and its subsidiary.

The associate contributes to donor budgets and reporting, ensures donor compliance, and helps improve processes and reporting quality while partnering with program staff. The role is based in our DC office with hybrid work options.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in Excel and financial reporting; ERP systems experience a plus.

Responsibilities

Controller is comprised of (i) accounting and financial reporting and (ii) payroll and payment services. Finance and Treasury Services is comprised of (i) treasury services and (ii) institutional budgeting, reporting and analytics. Procurement is comprised of (i) procurement and contracting and (ii) grants management.Position OverviewThe associate I, program planning and budget reports to and supports the manager, program planning and budget in providing program units with full-service budgeting and financial services. The associate I serves a supporting role across Planning and Budget. This position assists the unit with journal entries, budget uploads, monthly reporting, and special projects related to Pew. The Planning and Budget unit provides services to both Pew and its subsidiary, The Pew Research Center.In addition, the associate I works directly with the program area’s staff to create and monitor program budgets and forecasts; provide accurate and timely financial reporting; ensure compliance with adopted policies and procedures and donor reporting requirements; and provide a high level of customer service to management and program staff.This position reports to the manager, planning and budget, and is based in Pew’s Washington, DC office. This position participates in Pew’s hybrid work program with core days in the office and the flexibility to telework the remaining days. Staff also enjoy four telework “flex weeks” per year.ResponsibilitiesPrepare journal entries, budget uploads, and reconciliations of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.Prepare financial analyses, budget models, reports, and narratives.Assist with the development of donor budgets and reporting, and ensure compliance with donor agreements.Improve financial processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reporting quality.Coordinate monthly organization-wide financial report distribution.Calculate and process cash transfers between restricted funds and operating accounts.Support board approval process for new and recurring projects and maintain recordkeeping related to board commitments.Serve as the Pew Research Center’s day-to-day liaison for journal entries and donor reporting.Support Philadelphia and Scientific Advancement teams by assisting with monitoring of budget performance and analyzing variances.Assist with lobbying compliance.Foster a work environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible and in line with Pew and department goalsOther duties as assignedRequirementsGenerally, requires 1 year of experience; bachelor’s degree or equivalent experienceA minimum of one year of progressively responsible accounting/finance experienceStrong Excel skillsERP systems experience (PeopleSoft Financials a plus).Business process improvement experience is a plus.Strong analytical and customer services skillsExceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills including the ability to effectively interface with staff and managementSalary RangeUnited States Pay Range: $65,500 - $73,200The salary range represents a reasonable estimate of the annual salary based on Pew’s commitment to provide equitable and market-competitive pay.
