Job summary

Altivera Medical is seeking an experienced in-house attorney to guide complex regulatory and governance matters in the healthcare device space. You will lead corporate governance, manage outside counsel, and craft compliant commercial agreements across enterprise initiatives.

Qualifications

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one state.
  • Minimum 8 years of legal experience, including at least 5 years in-house within healthcare, medical device, DME, life sciences, or a regulated org.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance frameworks (HIPAA, FDA, Medicare/Medicaid, Anti-Kickback, False Claims Act, Stark; corporate compliance).
  • Experience managing litigation and outside counsel; support for quality/regulatory, IP, and mergers/transactions preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical, interpersonal, and executive communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound legal judgment, and maintain confidentiality in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support corporate and board governance activities with preparation and maintenance of records and materials.
  • Advise business leaders on legal risks, obligations, and practical solutions across enterprise initiatives.
  • Support privacy, data protection, information security, M&A, strategic transactions and other corporate initiatives.
  • Manage outside counsel relationships and legal spend in partnership with the Chief Legal Officer.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements including payor, vendor, business associate, and software licensing agreements.
  • Advise stakeholders on contractual rights, obligations, risk allocation, disputes, and resolution strategies.
  • Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and standards to improve consistency and reduce legal risk.
  • Provide guidance on federal/state healthcare laws and regulations affecting DME and medical device industries (privacy, FDA, Medicare/Medicaid, AKS, FCA, Stark).
  • Partner with Compliance and Quality/Regulatory on audits, investigations, policy development, and response strategies.
  • Conduct or support internal investigations into misconduct, privacy concerns, policy violations, or regulatory issues.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and translate requirements into practical guidance for stakeholders.
  • Review marketing materials for legal/regulatory compliance, including claims substantiation.
  • Advise HR and management on employment law matters including hiring, relations, performance, wage/hour, and discipline.
  • Manage litigation, regulatory inquiries, subpoenas, discovery, and settlements with outside counsel.
  • Support IP portfolio including trademarks, copyrights, patents, registrations, enforcement, and commercialization considerations.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer.

Key Responsibilities
Corporate Governance & Enterprise Legal Support

Healthcare Regulatory, Compliance & Investigations

  • Partner with Compliance and Quality & Regulatory Affairs on audits, inspections, corrective actions, investigations, policy development, and response strategies
  • Conduct or support internal investigations involving alleged misconduct, fraud, privacy concerns, policy violations, or regulatory compliance issues
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and translate requirements into practical guidance for internal stakeholders
Marketing, Employment & Litigation Support
  • Review promotional, advertising, educational, and marketing materials for legal and regulatory compliance, including claims substantiation and product representations
  • Advise Human Resources and management on employment law matters including hiring, employee relations, investigations, performance management, wage and hour, leave and accommodation, discipline, and separations
  • Manage litigation, claims, regulatory inquiries, subpoenas, discovery, preservation matters, settlement negotiations, and coordination with outside counsel
Intellectual Property & Special Matters
  • Support the company’s intellectual property portfolio, including trademarks, copyrights, patents, registrations, maintenance, enforcement, and commercialization considerations
  • Perform additional legal duties, strategic initiatives, and special projects as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one state bar
  • Minimum 8 years of legal experience, including at least 5 years of in-house counsel experience within healthcare, medical device, DME, life sciences, or another highly regulated organization
  • Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance frameworks, including HIPAA and privacy laws, FDA regulations, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement requirements, Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Stark Law, and corporate compliance programs
  • Experience managing litigation and outside counsel; experience supporting quality/regulatory functions, intellectual property, and mergers or strategic transactions preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical, interpersonal, and executive communication skills
  • Proven ability to independently manage multiple priorities, exercise sound legal judgment, influence without direct authority, and maintain confidentiality in a fast-paced environment
