Overview

Seeking mid-level to senior-level attorney (minimum 5-7+ years of experience out of law school). Yale University is committed to improving the world today and for future generations through outstanding research and scholarship, education, preservation, and practice. We are looking for an attorney to join a dedicated team of in-house counsel in support of Yale’s Endowment.

As a member of both the Office of General Counsel and the Yale Investments Office, you will work closely with investment team members to provide critical support in reviewing, negotiating and managing various legal documentation for a wide range of investment activities in one or more asset classes including private equity, venture capital, real assets, hedge funds and other closed-end and open-end fund strategies. Documentation may include limited partnership agreements, separate account arrangements, purchase and sale agreements, co-investment documentation, term sheets, subscription agreements and side letters. You will also have the opportunity to contribute broadly in support of the Investments Office’s diverse legal needs, such as capital markets, legal/regulatory policy, and compliance.

Please note that the Investments Office is a tight-knit team that values camaraderie and time together in person. As such, we have a weekly hybrid remote model (fully remote option is not available).

Required Skills and Abilities
  1. Proven demonstrated ability in investment management.
  2. Proven ability in contract review, drafting, and negotiation.
  3. Proven ability in deal/project management.
  4. Proven ability in critical thinking, and oral and written communication.
  5. Proven ability in basic legal research skills.
Preferred Education and Experience
  1. Candidates with broad and deep experience supporting large asset allocators with diverse and complex portfolio needs are highly encouraged to apply.
  2. Particularly strong fund formation expertise in the areas of private equity, venture capital, real assets, and/or hedge funds will be considered attractive.
  3. Other areas of expertise that are viewed as additive: fund finance, private equity M&A, tax, securities regulation, and ERISA.
