World Vision International is seeking an Associate General Counsel to provide legal counsel and services in coordination with the General Counsel. The role focuses on enabling compliance with laws and managing legal risk for the World Vision Partnership.

Required: JD or foreign equivalent, 5+ years’ experience, cross-border matters, and outside counsel management. California Bar preferred; non-US bar acceptable for exceptional candidates.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate or foreign equivalent required.
  • At least 5 years as a practicing attorney with cross-border, multijurisdictional matters preferred.
  • Admittance to the California Bar preferred; willing to waive for exceptional candidates admitted elsewhere.
  • Experience with outside counsel and cross-cultural environments advantageous.
  • Experience in nonprofit organisations is highly advantageous.
  • Fluent in English; secondary language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel and services to World Vision International and the Partnership.
  • Coordinate with General Counsel and the Legal Department to manage legal risk.
  • Handle cross-border, multijurisdictional matters and engage outside counsel as needed.
  • Advise on compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.

We help children of all backgrounds, even in the most dangerous places, inspired by our Christian faith.Come join our 31,000+ staff working in nearly 100 countries and share the joy of transforming vulnerable children’s life stories!Key Responsibilities:The Associate General Counsel will be responsible to provide legal counsel and services, in consultation with and under the direction of the General Counsel, and in coordination with other members of the Legal Department, to enable World Vision International and the broader World Vision “Partnership” to carry out their mission in compliance with applicable laws and at an acceptable level of legal risk.Admittance to the California Bar is also preferred but we will consider waiving the California requirement for an exceptional candidate who is admitted to the bar in another jurisdictions. You’ll bring these skills, qualifications and experience:* US Juris Doctorate, or foreign equivalent.* At least 5 years’ experience as a practicing attorney, with at least some of that in a major global law firm and engaged in cross-border, multijurisdictional matters is highly desired.* Solid foundation in fundamental legal theories, ability to identify problems and legal issues and provide practical advice to in-house clients, good negotiating and research skills, as well as effective written and oral communication skills.* Experience in dealing with outside counsel, preferably global exposure and general knowledge of international affairs.* Sensitivity in and exposure to cross-cultural situations.* Exposure/experience with countries in the developing world would be highly advantageous.* Experience both in law firms and corporate in-house legal departments would be preffered.* Experience in a non-US legal system, particularly the Civil Law system would be preferred.* Experience with nonprofit organisations would be highly advantageous.* Fluent in written and spoken English, and fluency in a second language (especially Spanish, French, or Portuguese) would be highly advantageous. *We will consider remote applicants, who reside in States where WVI is registered to operate*.Applicant Types Accepted:Local Applicants Only *World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organisation with a mission centred on following Jesus Christ in service to the world ́s most vulnerable children.
