Jensen Hughes is seeking an Associate to join our fire protection engineering team in Colorado Springs. This early career opportunity is open to recent grads or engineers with strong interest in fire protection.

You will contribute to life safety code consulting, sprinkler and fire alarm design, and performance-based fire engineering under the direction of a P.E. or experienced consultant, with opportunities to assume responsibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Civil or Architectural Engineering or related field
• 0–3 years of experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Passion for advancing the science of safety and exceeding client expectations

Responsibilities

• Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services under supervision (life safety code consulting, sprinkler design, fire alarm design, performance-based design)
• Develop plans, specifications and inspection reports ensuring accuracy and adherence to professional standards
• Assist in field investigations or inspections and coordinate design aspects into projects
• Identify applicable codes and standards to reference when evaluating inquiries
• Conduct basic analyses (eg. egress, smoke control, hydraulics) and document results
• Apply engineering calculations (size, egress, sprinkler water supplies)
• Submit progress reports to Project Managers and Leaders
• Communicate effectively with project teams, clients and others
• Demonstrate self-motivation and problem-solving skills

Job Overview

Jensen Hughes is looking to grow the team and has an early career opportunity for an Associate to join our fire protection engineering team in our Colorado Springs office. This position is open to recent grads or experienced early career Engineers with strong interest or experience in fire protection engineering.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services such as life safety code consulting, sprinkler design, fire alarm design, performance-based fire engineering design, under the direction of a P.E. or an experienced consultant.
• Develops plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed on assigned tasks to see that these items are complete, accurate and in accordance with good professional service practice standards.
• Assist in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigations or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.
• Identify applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating how to respond to inquiries.
• Conduct and document assigned work such as basic building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and basic sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations.
• Apply engineering calculations such as size required, means of egress, maximum allowable building area, sprinkler system water supplies and smoke control equipment.
• Submit progress reports to Project Managers and Project Leaders.
• Effectively communicate with project team members, clients and others.
• Responsible self-starter with problem solving and reasoning skills.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or higher in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Civil or Architectural Engineering or other related engineering field and 0-3 years' experience.
• Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills to write reports, business correspondence, presentations and procedure manuals, and to respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and the general public.
• Passion advancing the science of safety and in exceeding our client expectations.
