Job summary

Jensen Hughes is seeking an Associate Fire Protection Engineer in our Concord, California office. This early career opportunity welcomes recent graduates or engineers starting their careers who are passionate about fire protection engineering and safety.

You will grow under supervision, contribute to life safety code consulting, sprinkler design, and fire alarm design, while pursuing professional licensure with support from the firm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Civil or Architectural Engineering or related field.
• 0-3 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services under supervision.
• Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports.
• Assist in design problem resolution including field investigations and coordination.
• Identify codes and standards relevant to responses.
• Conduct and document building code analyses, egress analyses, and system reviews.
• Apply engineering calculations for means of egress and water systems.
• Submit progress reports to Project Managers.
• Communicate effectively with project team members and clients.
• Proactively solve problems and take initiative.

Job Overview

Jensen Hughes is looking to grow the team and has an early career opportunity for an Associate Fire Protection Engineer in our Concord, California office location. This position is open to recent grads or experienced early career Engineers with strong interest or experience in fire protection engineering.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services such as life safety code consulting, sprinkler design, fire alarm design, performance-based fire engineering design, under the direction of a P.E. or an experienced consultant.

• Develops plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed on assigned tasks to see that these items are complete, accurate and in accordance with good professional service practice standards.

• Assist in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigations or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.

• Identify applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating how to respond to inquiries.

• Conduct and document assigned work such as basic building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and basic sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations.

• Apply engineering calculations such as size required, means of egress, maximum allowable building area, sprinkler system water supplies and smoke control equipment.

• Submit progress reports to Project Managers and Project Leaders.

• Effectively communicate with project team members, clients and others.

• Responsible self-starter with problem solving and reasoning skills.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or higher in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Civil or Architectural Engineering or other related engineering field and 0-3 years' experience.

• Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills to write reports, business correspondence, presentations and procedure manuals, and to respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and the general public.

National Pay Range

$75,000-$85,000USD
