Job summary

Solutech is seeking an Associate Field Service Engineer (AFSE) to develop technical skills across platforms including Varian TrueBeam, C-Series, and Elekta. The training plan spans 36 weeks with periodic assessments by L&D and supervisors, culminating in potential promotion to FSE1.

You will participate in field operations, classroom training, and hands-on equipment work while maintaining safety and professionalism. A relocation may be required to a permanent region.

Qualifications

  • Basic mechanical skills.
  • Proficient with wrenches and screwdrivers; align bolts one-handed.
  • Basic electronics knowledge.
  • Understand components and circuits: bleed resistors, bypass capacitors, pull-up resistors, blocking diode.
  • Schematic reading.
  • Identify circuit function from schematics (e.g., relays, current control).
  • Troubleshooting skills using multimeter and oscilloscope.
  • Strong communication with colleagues and customers.
  • Customer support; build professional relationships.
  • Computer tasks: IP address changes, boot from CD, review Windows events.
  • Creativity and outside-the-box thinking.
  • Attention to detail and accurate inspections.

Responsibilities

Functional Description

Each Associate Field Service Engineer (AFSE) candidate will have the opportunity to develop their technical skills on multiple platforms, most notably Varian TrueBeam, C-Series, and Elekta. A detailed training plan will be created, filed, and executed in alignment with the AFSE training program and 45/90-day reviews.

The AFSE development path is designed to allow the candidate to transit through each of the operations divisions to allow the individual to gain knowledge and experience while remaining solely focused on training. The training program is scheduled to last 36 weeks. The candidate will receive periodic assessments from Learning & Development, their immediate supervisor and other individuals as required. Assessment will take place in the form of written exams, practical evaluations and observations of work.

Scope of Outcomes

The core responsibilities for this position include:

  • Participate in field operations as assigned. This will include all service operations, being used as On-The-Job Training (OJT) opportunities
  • Study independently and/or as directed to prepare for all assignments and rotations
  • Participate in classroom training and OJT activities as recommended/directed
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism and safety consciousness according to guidelines to perform activities under the safest working conditions
  • Be timely and punctual for all assignments
  • Dress appropriately and professionally for the job at hand
  • Report by means of Salesforce, e-mail, expense reports, etc. regularly to ensure accurate company statistical data on training-oriented and customer-oriented activities
  • Participate in equipment jobs as assigned. These will be scheduled when available by L&D or Parts Director
  • Successful completion of the Associate training program and all assessments is required for promotion to FSE1. Relocation may be required to a permanent assigned region
Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

  • Basic mechanical skills
  • Must be able to use wrenches and screwdrivers skillfully and dexterously. Align and tighten bolt one-handed without seeing fastener
  • Basic electronics knowledge
  • Identify and understand the function of components and circuits such as bleed resistors on a capacitor, bypass capacitors on digital circuits, pull-up resistors in logic circuits, blocking diode on a charging circuit
  • Schematic reading
  • Able to identify and determine the overall function of a circuit based on the schematic such as self-latching relays, feedback loops using comparators or current control/monitoring using a shunt resistor
  • Troubleshooting
  • Able to perform basic troubleshooting tasks both in theory and practice. Examples include using a multimeter to troubleshoot an open switch in a series of switches or analyzing waveforms with an oscilloscope
  • Communication
  • Technical and professional communication between colleagues. Able to describe complex issues and understand technical instructions all over the phone
  • Customer Support
  • Establish and maintain successful professional relationships with customers. Must be able to effectively communicate with customers in an engaging and uplifting manner, representative of Solutech endeavors
  • Must be able to perform basic computer-related tasks such as changing an IP address, booting a computer from a CD, cloning and replacing a hard drive or accessing and reviewing Windows event viewer
  • Creativity/outside the box thinking
  • An ability to creatively apply previous knowledge and experience in each situation. An ability to recognize when creativity is both called for and appropriate
  • Attention to detail and observation skills
  • The ability to notice and correctly interpret small details, ensuring accuracy in tasks such as inspecting components, identifying inconsistencies, or detecting irregularities. For example, spotting a slight misalignment in a mechanical assembly or recognizing a faint discoloration on a circuit board that could indicate an issue such as overheating
Environmental and Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to travel, both domestically and internationally, for extended periods of time
  • Dexterous ability to manipulate small objects
  • Willing to work standard and non-standard hours as required to support the customers
