Job summary

Weston Solutions, Inc. is seeking an Associate Environmental Scientist to support the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of water treatment systems.

This hands-on role blends field and office work, including system monitoring, environmental sampling, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation. The position supports an anticipated project award with start timing aligning to project kickoff and mobilization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Sciences or related field and 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Ability to follow technical procedures and read operating manuals, equipment instructions, or schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail, safety, documentation, and data accuracy.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor water treatment systems, including filtration units, pumps, valves, piping, chemical feed systems, and instrumentation.
  • Perform routine inspections, operational checks, preventive maintenance, and minor equipment repairs.
  • Monitor system performance and record flow, pressure, totalizer, and other meter readings.
  • Prepare chemical feed solutions and follow established chemical-handling procedures.
  • Collect water, groundwater, soil, and other environmental samples using approved procedures.
  • Calibrate, operate, and maintain field monitoring and sampling equipment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot operational or mechanical issues involving pumps, valves, piping, treatment equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Maintain accurate operating logs, field notes, analytical results, maintenance records, and daily reports.
  • Organize project files and prepare documentation of field, treatment-system, and maintenance activities.
  • Follow site-specific safety requirements, environmental regulations, standard operating procedures, and established safe work practices.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to support treatment-system operations.
  • Respond promptly to system alarms, shutdowns, and operational issues, including after-hours and weekend events while on call.

Weston is seeking an Associate Environmental Scientist to support the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of water treatment systems. This hands-on position combines field and office work, including system monitoring, environmental sampling, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational documentation.

This position supports an anticipated project award with work expected to begin in the near term. Weston is proactively interviewing to prepare for onboarding as project activities ramp up. Start timing will align with project award, kickoff, and mobilization schedules.

Location: West Chester, PA

Expected Outcomes:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Sciences or related field and 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to follow technical procedures and read operating manuals, equipment instructions, or schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail, safety, documentation, and data accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently when appropriately trained and to collaborate effectively with the project team.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including field equipment, supplies, and PPE.
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends when assigned to the rotating on-call schedule.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a security clearance or site access authorization if required.
Preferred:
  • Technical training, coursework, certificate, or associate degree in water treatment, environmental technology, mechanical systems, industrial maintenance, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree or coursework in Environmental Science, Engineering, Physical Science, Life Science, or a related discipline.
  • Previous internship, military, laboratory, field, construction, utilities, mechanical, or water treatment experience.
  • Familiarity with pumps, valves, piping, filtration systems, chemical feed systems, or environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Experience collecting environmental samples or maintaining field and operational documentation.
  • OSHA, HAZWOPER, water treatment, first aid, or other relevant safety and technical training.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.

Salary Range: $45,374 - $59,489 - $73,499
