Job description

This journey-level position performs a full range of professional civil engineering duties related to land development, planning, design, construction, and maintenance. The position works with considerable independence on complex engineering assignments and ensures compliance with applicable standards, regulations, policies, and procedures. Incumbents appointed to the Associate Engineer classification are required to obtain a California Civil Engineer license within one (1) year of appointment. Upon obtaining the license, the incumbent’s title will be designated as Associate Civil Engineer. This designation reflects professional licensure.

• Performs professional-level engineering work supporting the design, construction, and maintenance of City infrastructure, including streets, lighting, storm drainage, sewers, traffic systems, parks, and landscaping.
• Prepares project designs, engineering drawings, construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and bid and contract documents for assigned projects.
• Participates in the issuance of various construction permits including encroachment, transportation, and grading permits.

Education/Training:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or related field.

Experience:

Two years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience comparable to an Assistant Engineer with the City of Suisun City.

License or Certificate:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate California Class C Driver’s License.

Associate Engineer requires possession of a valid Engineer in Training Certificate. If hired as an Associate Engineer, registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers is required within one year of employment, in order to successfully pass the probationary period.

Candidates who possess a Civil Engineer license upon hire will be hired as Associate Civil Engineer.
