Role Description

The Associate DVM is a full-time, on-site role based at Whipple Avenue Pet Hospital in Redwood City, CA. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating a variety of medical conditions, and providing surgical and dental care for companion animals. The role involves interpreting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, and communicating clearly with pet guardians about recommendations, options, and follow-up care. The Associate DVM will collaborate with veterinary technicians and support staff to deliver efficient, high-quality patient care, maintain accurate medical records, and uphold hospital standards and protocols. Participation in client education, preventive care programs, and occasional emergency or urgent care cases is expected.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) from an accredited veterinary school and eligibility for licensure in California.
• Strong clinical skills in small animal medicine, including physical examination, diagnosis, and development of evidence-based treatment plans.
• Competence in routine soft tissue surgery and dentistry; willingness to refine and expand surgical and procedural skills.
• Ability to interpret laboratory and imaging diagnostics and integrate findings into comprehensive patient care.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with team members and educating clients in a clear, respectful manner.
• Commitment to patient welfare, fear-free or low-stress handling techniques, and high standards of medical ethics.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail in medical record keeping, and ability to manage a varied daily caseload.
• Willingness to participate in continuing education and stay current with developments in veterinary medicine and surgery.
• Previous experience in a small animal practice setting is preferred but newly graduated veterinarians are encouraged to apply.
